Football (Soccer) World Cups 2018 and 2022

General sports news and discussions.

Re: Football (Soccer) World Cups 2018 and 2022

The Qatar World Cup 2022 is hardly off the announcement pages and it is already causing further issues.
There has been a lot of discussion as to when the event will actually take place.
World Cups traditionally have always taken place during the Northern Hemispheres' summer months of June & July. It would appear that the weather conditions in Qatar in those months will be punishing in the extreme to the players & possibly to the older spectators as well. Indeed so much so that there has been discussions about moving the 2022 World Cup to the winter months.
This seems to me that if this information is true then it reflects hugely on the initial FIFA decision. As I have already said before the FIFA evaluations of the competitors placed Qatar bottom of the list.
Could those voting please explain exactly what criteria they used in coming to their decision?
As it was obviously different to the criteria of the evaluation process what is the point of that evaluation?
Can they also explain how they gave the competition to a place that would now appear to be completely unsuitable to run it when 3 other more suitable choices were available.

Despite these valid questions FIFA rumbles on as if everything is perfect. It is a corrupt & rotten organisation there to financially benefit its officials with that, rather than the interests of football, being its sole aim.

Couldn't wait any longer for you Bob. :D

Fresh bribery claims rock FIFA

World soccer governing body FIFA has been rocked by new allegations of corruption, with two members allegedly paid $1.5 million each to vote for Qatar instead of Australia to host the 2022 World Cup.

In an explosive session of a British parliamentary committee in the House of Commons, six members of FIFA's graft-tainted executive were accused of involvement in bribery before last year's votes to decide the 2018 and 2022 hosts.

Two members of the 24-man FIFA executive were suspended before last December's ballot for allegedly offering to sell their votes to undercover reporters from The Sunday Times.

British lawmaker Damian Collins said the hearing had now received evidence from the newspaper that FIFA vice-president Issa Hayatou from Cameroon and Jacques Anouma from the Ivory Coast received bribes of $1.5 million to back Qatar's 2022 bid..............

Well I thought it was rather ironic that while this was being announced & Lord Triesman was making his claims of corruption...
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/9481461.stm
That Mr. Blatter in part of his 'hit list' for re-election announced this...
Fifa unveils anti-match fixing plan

If you want to stop corruption anywhere then it must start at the very top & filter down. Starting at the bottom & attempting to work up is just a plain stupid idea & a waste of time & money. Mr. Blatter knows that as well as I but his re-election depends on the corrupt officials that he has happily helped put in place to get support.

FIFA is as corrupt a bunch of officials as will be found anywhere in the sporting world (& elsewhere for that matter). It needs a huge turnover in the officials, but that will not happen.
It defends/ignores all sorts of financial shenanigans by all the various authorities in Africa. Then threatens to suspend countries on the rare occasion that local Governments cannot ignore it any more & try and sort it out... :(

One of the members was the Thai minister of sport Bob he wanted England to play a friendly this year in Bangkok as long as the Thais got the TV rights, 1 wanted 2 half million pounds and 1 even wanted a knighthood, in return for there vote in our favour no surprise then that they voted against us, wonder what the rich sheiks in Doha offered them.

Perhaps soccer needs a Kerry Packer - to take on FIFA in the same way he did cricket in the late 70s.

Is there someone with deep enough pockets?

To much money to be lost Dermot plus was it not us that agreed to play a friendly in BKK, FIFA is a monster within itself so until blatter goes there too big to take on by a single country.
