Worst for your Health ?

Postby old-timer » January 4, 2011, 12:56 pm

In terms of being good for your health, Irish coffee must rank as the lowest drink. After all it has caffeine, fat, sugar and alcohol in one serving - the only plus side to this beverage is the water, I believe water is good for you. I would tend to ignore the first four ingredients to an Irish coffee and insist that it is good for me because it has water.

Have to agree with that, if a little of what you fancy does you good, then a lot of what you fancy must do you a lot of good.
Also, by the same token, a glass or two of red wine a day is good for you, therefore a bottle must be excellent.

Hi,
Either O.T. or my doctor is wrong. I know who i will listen to. I had a stroke on new years eve in 1999. Was in Dock for four weeks and another 2 weeks in bed at home. Since then I have been O.K., touch wood. And no I was not drinking, the last strong drink I had then was Christmas Day. On getting out of hospital I asked the doctor if it was alright if i had a whisky. He was a stroke specialist, and told me this, A whisky will do you a lot of good, moreso than some of the pills, as it will thin your blood amongst other things. BUT NOT in excess.
That was over ten years ago. Still O.K. now, apart fron a few twinges, put this down to old age, in my 70's now. Been of all the pills for 5 years but not my dayly shot of the Glen. Do not make I.C. with malt though.
This being the case i will not be crossing whisky of my list. I do not drink coffee but can't you get de-caff. coffee. My ex. used to drink loads of the stuff and it hasn't harmed her. Down on my luck again, she's still a pain in the rear. As for sugar I always put honey in my Irish coffee, tastes far better. But if heating the drink up in a micro-wave take care. Don't know where the fat comes from.
If you want to know, I read about a person dying from the poison that carrots contain. His diet consisted of a lot of carrots and carrot juice and he over did it. So the P.M. said. Taking anything to excess can be bad for you.

The two or so fingers of cream balanced on the top.

Here is what those “healthy food” phrases actually translate to:
•Fat free, but full of sugar and chemicals.
•Reduced fat, but increased carbohydrates.
•Low fat, but high glycemic index.
•Sugar free, but artificial everything else.
•No added sugar… because the all natural version has enough sugar to give you type II diabetes anyway.
•“Diet” food, but it causes cancer in lab rats so don’t drink/eat too much of it.
The best way to cut down on unhealthy food / Drink is to not put anything in your mouth.

OT'll be going down the pub lunchtime for a couple of pints and an unhealthy sandwich whatever happens.

What a very strange and probably inaccurate post. Most things in moderation have if not positive health benefits, neutral benefits. Its not like people have Irish coffee 5 times a day every day.
Caffeine in moderation is not bad for you and is reputed to aid memory, as well as giving you a perk up
Alcohol in moderation has good effects in the body
Fat-cream, we need 20-25% fat in our diet, better some nice cream than eating a bag of crisps or the fat on a steak
Sugar-yes, not good but in moderation relatively harmless

Put them together in an Irish coffee and you have something that makes you feel good. With 1/3 people in the world suffereing depression at one time, feeling good has to be good.
As for water, well fish f..k in it.

There's two things an irish coffee can make you feel, one is feel good, the other is puke up. Anyone who suffers from depression should nip down the doctors and get a prescription for an irish coffee ? The best results for depression is between 6 and 10 pints of lager (depending on body weight) followed by a WFB. It's been clinically proven.

Keeping in tune with the topic title, I somehow think that 6 -10 pints of lager would NOT be good for your health OT!! :-k

Also, I suspect that after 6-10 pints of lager, there wouldn't be much that one could do with a WFB, apart from gaze through glazed eyes and think about what might have been! ;)

OT's wife and kids eat these things in the pictures I've posted. I'm not sure if it's bad for your health to eat. Personally speaking I would rather put a red hot poker up my backside than eat that:

I've even seen the kids spit out the feathers when they are eating them.
