Would you support a chiropractor in Udon Thani?

Postby Dingo » February 2, 2011, 5:06 pm

Hi
Over the past 7 months, I have had to travel to Bangkok to get some real chiropractic treatment for back and neck problems, simply because I can't find any others close to Udon Thani. For those who know of Chiropractic treatment, it's completely different to a normal massage or physio treatment. In fact all of them combined, would be perfect (if you have the money :? ) Today I got back from an adjustment with a professional clinic, D-Spine, in Bangkok. Whilst talking with one of the doctors there, he mentioned they may be setting up in either Korat or Khon Kaen. I immediately suggested to hold off because Udon has many expats living or regularly visiting that may support you establishing a clinic here. Yes, I know it's a big call and a bit selfish but what the hell, I thought I would try and use this forum to gauge genuine interest as to how much support they would get. I have the doctors private email address and have told him that if there is interest here, as I suspect, then he should read some of the replies to this post and gauge for himself.

If you have any interest in this brief survey, then simply reply as normal. I will keep looking and advise if it's worthwhile for the doctor to check out all the replies. Thanks all, I appreciate you taking the time to read this.
Let's see what eventuates!
Cheers

Back in the states I went to a chiropractor once a month for a tune up. If one was available here, I'd do the same.

I expect my wife would also partake, as she was impressed how much it helped her low back pain when we were in the US.

If the price is reasonable, I would go once a week if they opened in Udon, probably twice a month if they open in KK. A 2 hour drive to KK is better than a trip to Bangkok. Most chiros I know have at least two offices that they visit on different days of the week. Maybe they could set up an office in KK for 3 days a week and Udon for 3 days a week to start. I think if they advertise in Udonmap, on some Tuk Tuks and get in contact with some local hospitals, they will do very well.

Can I ask how much money D-Spine charges for an initial visit and xrays and for follow-up visits? Do they use any therapies (spinalator, Lakota traction, hydrocollator)?

I hope they decide to come up north.

I would absolutely be there at least weekly if he offered some sort of package deal. It would motivate me to keep my appointments, too. I like the idea about him being in Udon for 2-3 days. That would work for me!

Currently, when I am in Udon, I have to suffer the massage parlors who insist on going through their entire body routine even though I clearly tell them I just want the back massaged. Another frustration is the ridiculous cost of Naproxen sodium (aka Aleve) in Thailand (!). A real chiropractor would be welcome, indeed!

Thanks all for the responses so far.
Rideswing, in reply to your question,"How much?" I asked for the complete treatment which lasted about 45 minutes, including electro stimulation (to relax the muscles) and warm packs to loosen the muscles in the affected areas and then the treatment by the doctor. The total came to 1800 TB but was worth every baht of it. I'm sure there are cheaper rates but I needed to get back to Udon without follow up appointments, so I wanted to get sorted out there and then!
Oh, as I left the clinic, it was peak hour traffic, so I decided to walk the 3 or 4 kilometeres back to my hotel. With the walk and the treatment, I felt absolutely great!!! \:D/
I'm grateful for all the replies to this post, however, I think we need quite a few more positive replies before I can submit to the doctor concerned. If there is anyone else out there who is even half interested, please reply.
Thanks all, I apprecaite the time you've taken =D>

Dingo count me in.

Also, you may get more feed back if you post on the "other" Udon related forum. Can't post the name, but you can google it.

Say, any word on a nearby chiropractor, yet? I sure could use one today. Had a massage recently which worsened the pain as they focused on going through their whole body routine rather than just my back. :(

KD,
No, I still haven't got the numbers as yet to entice him here. I've been back to him since (twice) and tried every "plead" I could to get them to come up here and at least try for a few times. The doctor (Chiro), I'm working with is brilliant for adjustments and will talk to the management board "again". The company is "D-Spine", located on Soi 24, Sukhumvit. They have a website to browse under the same name, perhaps if a "few" were to email and suggest the same as me, then we may increase the chances. If not, well we'll just have to keep on trying for another. Any farang out there know of retired Chiro's wanting to move over here???????? Thanks to all those that replied, "it aint over yet"!!! Well, I'll keep trying anyway!

Hell, I'd pay double for the first adjustment in Udon by your guy, Dingo.
Still cheaper than an air trip to BKK, or pay for gas and drive for hours on end, take a friggin' train, or boring butt breakin' bus.

There's always more than one way to skin a cat, Dingo. When you're in Udon next why don't you drop by, or we can get together for a simple lunch and discuss possible enticing ways we could lure your guy to come up for a weekend, or whatever.

I'll mail him in the meantime.

My best,
Doc

I would think a once a week, appt based outreach to Udon by a good chiro would be very lucrative for them, probably would gross 20K for the day easily! As it has been pointed out,the costs of making trips to Bangkok can make the costs very high for treatment,so a few hundred added on for them to come here ,would,IMO,be more than warranted!
The problem is when emergency adjustments are needed, but with regular care, they would be minimized!
