Im not ritired and im not on vacation. Living here for 7 months of the year and in Sweden for 5 months.
Having the business in Sweden but only work during the summer.
Been doing this since 2005, but have lived in Phuket and Bangkok before, moved to Udon last year.
The only young person i can see in Udon is backpackers passing by...

I do see a occasional young falang man or women here when I'm grocery shopping or at the park. Look like working folks, possibly for a ngo, teaching or missionaries.

I don't think you'll find to many people in their 20's reading this forum or hanging out in the expat bars. You'll find them out doing things. If you like to hang out with people in that age bracket you might consider Chiang Mai or other norther cities. Udons falang population seems to be mostly age 50+ retired men.

You need to open your eyes to the world around you as there are many young people, male and female, living in Udonthani who are not backpackers. They are, for the most part, Thai, Lao and Chinese.

You can find some of the university-aged young people at Tae Wan Daeng a few nights of the week. During the day, they can be found on campus.

I wasnt clear enough, I meant young falang people. Thaifriends i have but it's nice being able to talk with people with a diffrent way of seeing things. No disrespect to Thais but i don't belive in ghost, spirits and i like too follow world news.

Why don't you go to the expat meetings at the bookhouse & coffee shop held every month. There's a bunch of falangs that go there and talk a load of b0llocks.

The problem with that suggestion is that he is a young guy, and wants to meet people in his age group. The meetup crowd are about 2-3 times older than he is, and maybe just as limited/provincial in their outlook as he seems to think the local Udon population is. Not many ex-pats have the international experience that you do, and confine themselves to worrying about foreign intruders upsetting British social norms. Like some Thais, the ex-pat life often revolves around spirits (alcohol) too.

If you just want to get together with falangs who do have a different perspective on things and keep up on world news, well what does that have to do with age. Most ex pats will fit that catergory, why not give them a chance. They might not beat you in a 100 m race, but mentally maybe they can run circles around you...LOL

Hi Dudde, most farangs I know be they young or old, speak about Football, Women and Booze, not necessarily in that order, the older ones have eons of experience in the world some have travelled to places where no-one goes anymore, some have had very interesting jobs, some still work.

Young ones, I find are interesting as their perspective is different but their lack of knowledge and experience shows when talking about the world and life in general. So if you want and interesting and informative conversation while drinking, don't knock the oldsters, you might be surprised at what you learn and the conversations you have.

I can see where the lads coming from. I too find the old around town rather boring to talk with, and by old, I mean those over 50, who by my standards qualify as young. You've only got to read both forums to realise that. :-"

I have no problem grabbing a beer and have a chat with old fellas. The boring part doe is that it doesnt matther what we discuess. Trust me I love too listen and learn, when i speak up it's either in something i belive strong in or i have strong fact of. But you sad too say it you old guys have a problem beeing correted by a person being half of your age.
Apart from that i don't mind downing a few LEO's with ya!

But it wouldn't be wrong with a person who you could kick some ball with, go out run with, hang out with while the ladies are shopping.
But i guess im out of luck here ;) Nothing too cry about still loves Udon
