Your tax dollars at work: Tablet PCs vs Electricity

Postby rickfarang » January 23, 2012, 2:14 pm

I noticed an interesting passage in an article in The Nation online today.

Schools without electricity or adequate facilities to support tablet use in classrooms (e.g., electrical outlets and televisions), or whose teachers are unable to make use of such technological tools, will not be eligible to receive the tablets. More than 2,000 schools do not have electricity.

Its pretty clear what the priorities are :(

Your tax dollars at work: Tablet PCs vs Electricity

This is another half baked education idea. The MOE is in a rush to have tablets but they have no clue how this program is going to work. The schools are littered with many half baked projects already. If the program gets off the ground I suspect 25% of the tablets will be broken or unusable after the first year. Little Apisit and Porntip will have a toy to play with but they won't be able to speak Thai correctly or do simple math. [-(
