Usman Kwaja was born in Pakistan so we still got one interloper. How many you got in the 11 for next week? Outside of Root, Cook, Anderson and Broad (and Stokes when he arrives after the 2nd test) the rest are pretty well no names to Aussie cricket fans.

"England have named seamer Jake Ball ahead of Craig Overton in their side for the first Ashes Test against Australia in Brisbane.

Ball, 26, has recovered from the sprained ankle he suffered on 10 November and which kept him out of England's final warm-up game last week.

Australia have called up all-rounder Glenn Maxwell as cover for David Warner, who has a stiff neck, and Shaun Marsh, who has a sore back."

Now can ya see why I told you to keep that pair away from the sheep dip wazza :-&

"Warner is still a little bit stiff but he's feeling better and very confident," said Smith.

"Warner is still a little bit stiff but he's feeling better and very confident," said Smith.
Warner has a sore neck from watching balls fly over the boundary while practicing against a sparing partner who bowls like broad.

Marsh has a sore not from any backslappers for selection but from the surprised sudden body jolt after hearing the news of selection. But we will stand by him and hope he performs well. He may well surprise.
Would prefer Maxwell though, sore back or not.

Hoping for good weather for the 4 days of the test and a cracking quick bouncy pitch.
Didn't know it was 31 years since the poms have won a test in Brisbane, surely that cant change this game. :-"

Perhaps an overdose of Abu Dhabi Doo beers here.

But should last 3 days.

At lunch England are 59-1 off 29 overs......Stoneman 25 not out,Vince 32 not out,Cook the man out for 2.
Rain has delayed the restart......unpredictable Brisbane weather could see the Test going into a 4th day ! ;)
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

We failed to take advantage of an early wicket, and so the knives are out for the bowlers already.

Scoreboard was 1/2 or 2/1 depending which side you bat on !

Probably sick of the balmy army's "here we go here we go here we go here we go here we go here we go here we go here we go here we go" chant.

But back on topic

The inevitable pom collapse finally starts and the umps call time because of bad light mid over of the new ball, WTF, could of swore I was watching a recent series in England where play went on almost until the local pubs were nearly closed. Any way the poms did OK and were in front on the day until that runout.
Tomorrow will be an interesting morning session. Australia should be batting after lunch

Wicket was prepared for a 5 day test. Slowest and lowest Brisbane track ever. See the groundsman, Kevin Mitchell, is blaming the weather. Might be something in it but very disappointing to see the ball going though to the keeper ankle height on the first morning. Having said that the English batted very well and applied themselves to the task at hand with great concentration and determination, especially Vince and Stoneman. Looking forward to day 2 - hopefully the track will quicken up a bit.

Wazza you may be right about the draw thinking by the English team

If my reading of ashes stories is correct , if The poms have drawn the Brisbane test in a series they have gone onto win the series.
I may be wrong. :-"

This morning will be the key. The 2 batsmen out there and the next 2 in the hutch are capable of adding another 200 quickly.Equally, against the new ball, they could all bomb out.

Personally, (glass half full!), I was delighted that our new boys played well. Root and Cook will come good so, generally positive.

Whats this playing for a draw" nonsense though? Looked like good old fashioned test cricket to me!
