A Canuck friend told me the Chess Club in Viang Chan (Vientiane) was to be a useful place to meet Lao girls for rest and relaxation. He took one back to Udon with him for a few weeks.

I never noticed any bars in the capital, but I was not looking for them.

That would impress the missus, me returning to the hotel with a mia noi.
Found the Highlands Bar, great views of the river and one of the most impressive sunsets I have ever seen.
Sent from my 1977 Apple II using 2 Heinz bake bean cans and piano wire!

Bus travel in both Laos and Thailand can be a long, and very winding journey. Every now and again, the atmosphere livens up as food sellers board the hulking contraption to sell their wares as can be seen here. This is on the Pakse-Savannakhet bus, 8 August, 2014. It was a ten-hour trip.

You only pass through this life once, you don't come back for an encore.
