Looks like the vibration when a plane is making a very fast, controlled decent. Oh wait... this WAS an emergency so there you go.

Philippine Airlines do it every day when the dive-bomb Ninoy Aquino.... no emergency.

Yep IMHO anyone sitting at the pointy end of one of these should have more sense than to make such a comments: "This is your Captain speaking --- bend down and kiss your arse -- or -- prey to your god -- we are f**ked!!!" Wouldn't give you 2 bob for his career prospects.

OK this sort of thing can happen at any time and this engine type cannot be stopped from rotating even when shut down, heavily out of balance = hence the continuing, heavy vibrations.

IMHO Alternative - he was only 200 Nm (about 30 minutes) out of Learmonth (a civilian but primarily military) airport MORE than capable of handling an aircraft of this size rather than risk another 1.5 hours flying under such conditions to Perth?

Seems like a fan blade(s) blew out causing an imbalance and thus the wobbling.

I would think if you wanted to keep the passengers calm you would not tell them to pray (on two separate occasions). You could here the fear in the pilots voice. Not very reassuring.... no Sully here.

Probably could have tried to stop the wobbling by reducing airspeed to a safe level above Vmc. Thankfully, the engine didn't detach from it's pylon and drop in somebody's backyard. On the bright side, free vibrating chair massage for the passengers.

So many always looking for a cheap fare on airlines. Nothing wrong with looking for that as long as you get some value to go along with with. So many airlines with cheap fares that also have cheap reputations. No thanks. I'll pay a few hundred baht or 1,000 baht extra to fly with a better carrier with a better record.

Yeah, something bad could happen at any time, anywhere with any airline; but I'll go with the best odds. :-"

As a retired military pilot I find the captains reaction if it's true,. more worrying than the technical problem.
