Kind of boggles the mind dosen't it?

Maybe it's because this story is closer to home. Although, here in Thailand I am sure the number of girls being exploited is far greater.

I don't know if exploited is the right term in regards to the young Thai girls selling their goods. They know full well what they are doing and seem to value the cash more than their offerings. Thailand seems to have a cash value on everything. I told my Thai wife about this story and she said those girls know exactly what they are doing, Thai culture I guess.

Well as one of those Brits let me put you straight. Firstly my interest was raised because this is the Udon topic on a Udon forum, it so happens that the perpetrator was said to be in the topic title American, later on in the subject matter clarified as being of Korean descent, neither of these were deciding factors in my reading and subsequently posting on the subject .My interest was solely on the type of incident and because it happened locally, also as it turned out, someone known to us as a member.For you to try and turn this into an example of what you perceive to be American bashing session is the only sad thing I can see .None of us had any control over where we were born any more than we decided the colour of our own skin. We are what our parents made us. Get used to it, accept it and get on with your life, stop looking for insults, be proud of who you are whether thats a yank or a Brit or anything else .

It appears he was the guy who bought my accident motorbike. Seemed like a nice guy, said he was from Hawaii.
Enjoyed alot of good conversation, pretty smart guy. Said he was helping the girls get out of their debt problems. And....they helped him out alot. Never said anything about age, but I did suspect it. I'm sure many of you knew him.

I thought this was an UDON forum , and has news about things going on in UDON. This American was living in UDON, and was arrested by UDON police, should British people not comment on this because it might upset some Septics ?
About the muslim gangs that were arrested in Britain, this is old news, has been going on for years, most of the girls were tearaways looking for alcohol sex and drugs. I don't condone what happened to them in any way and hope the perpetrators suffer, just as I hope the American suffers( or suffered)
Perhaps the Brits on this forum are all too aware about this old news and as it has nothing to do with UDON , or even Thailand, see no point in commenting. Its not very fair to label British people on the forum as sad because they didn't comment on something you wanted them to comment on.

Naivety can be boundless on this forum, are you suggesting he was giving motorbike repair lessons to naked 17 year old girls ? the amount of scandals surroundings children in the uk is shocking, childrens care homes, sports clubs you name it, where ever children go sickos follow. society in the uk has not protected it's vulnerable children,.

In my many years of institutions and boarding schools I will tell you one thing, volunteers were some of the worst offenders. but don't get me wrong ,i'm only putting my point across from a victims point. I've never managed to get my head around the offenders point of view. so please everyone get a grip. she's a victim , he's an offender. and if he is dead then the fact he can't be prosecuted don't make him innocent

Whatever anybody thinks, this man had broken laws to protect minors in Thailand. Paid Sex with someone under the age of 18 is a crime. And it is not as if this was a one off instance. He may have got off on this if he oiled the wheels but making videos would also compound this, He was also engaged in 'work' without a work permit (probably a more serious crime here!). But, the big thing is that he would have fallen foul of the US Protect act which criminalises sex with a minor and paid sex with a minor anywhere in the world. Even if he served time in Thailand (not very attractive) he would still be liable for prosecution on his return to the USA. If he had a previous sex conviction this could even have been life imprisonment. Also a travel ban.

With such a future ahead of him, would not be surprised if he decided to end it all.

I believe that the law in the U.S. is that U.S. citizens can be prosecuted there for several sex crimes (trafficking, minors, etc.) regardless of where the acts occurred and regardless of whether the local jurisdiction where the crimes occurred prosecuted the offender or not.

As Rick points out, he broke the law in both Thailand and the US. If he was prosecuted by the US, 15 to 30 year sentence. Here's the law:
