Whatever anybody thinks, this man had broken laws to protect minors in Thailand. Paid Sex with someone under the age of 18 is a crime. And it is not as if this was a one off instance. He may have got off on this if he oiled the wheels but making videos would also compound this, He was also engaged in 'work' without a work permit (probably a more serious crime here!). But, the big thing is that he would have fallen foul of the US Protect act which criminalises sex with a minor and paid sex with a minor anywhere in the world. Even if he served time in Thailand (not very attractive) he would still be liable for prosecution on his return to the USA. If he had a previous sex conviction this could even have been life imprisonment. Also a travel ban.

With such a future ahead of him, would not be surprised if he decided to end it all.

I believe that the law in the U.S. is that U.S. citizens can be prosecuted there for several sex crimes (trafficking, minors, etc.) regardless of where the acts occurred and regardless of whether the local jurisdiction where the crimes occurred prosecuted the offender or not.

As Rick points out, he broke the law in both Thailand and the US. If he was prosecuted by the US, 15 to 30 year sentence. Here's the law:
