Sorry to have confused you Statts, that was not my aim, so I will go back to square 1 & start again... :D

1. The boxes that are offered by various companies are Android powered devices that have had specific software added to make their servers (that contain the TV programs) available to the buyer.
The Android boxes are just 'cut down' computers so there is no difference in what you can display with them to what you could display on your computer - if you had the software loaded!!

2. There is a maximum download speed that can be achieved via wi-fi. I imagine that most of the equipment that you can buy in Thailand is using the 802.11n compliant system. This has a maximum speed to about 300Mbps, but that is theoretical & you will probably only get about 50 in the real world & if you have walls in between the router & the equipment it could drop to as low as 2Mpbs.
Recommendations I have seen suggest that for a 720p HD viewing you need a rate of 20+ Mpbs & for 1080p HD you need a rate of 50+.

So, the best way of ensuring that you get the best speed possible is hardwire ethernet from your router to the TV box.

Wi-fi might work fine, equally it could give you a shoddy viewing experience!!

Thanks Bob. So as I see it, it's a "suck it and see" scenario. If it works well then I've got 21 sports channels at an acceptable price, and if it doesn't I send it back for their 7 day no questions refund, and all it's cost me is the postage and a couple hundred baht for an Ethernet cable. As there doesn't seem to be many other options (I'd prefer to go without rather than pay True again ) and there's no Newcastle matches on Sky till the end of the month, I'll have a think and then probably give it a go. If I do i'll report back here (good or bad). Thanks for the help

I think so Statts.

I would try it first with just the wi=fi (keep costs down :D ). If that is completely acceptable to you then no need for the cable route. If it does 'jump' & 'freeze' then investing in the cable is probably worth the expense to see if that fixes it - which I am pretty sure it would!!

After more than 10 years of jump and freeze and snow from TRUE & CTH every time the wind blows or it rains, i'm not sure I will be able to tell the difference

My recent experiences with Pulse TV advised me to get the word out not to have anything to do with them. Was interested in their selection of English programmes. I tried to sign up on their website as was advised by a "tech support" person: after numerous attempts to get someone to identify themselves by name. My Malwarebytes Premium blocked access immediately stating known malware source, Avast Pro anti-virus and Web of Trust also advise not to go near the site. On the tech supports '(Stuart apparently) word I put their site into exclusions and tried to register only to be blocked again by Mawarebytes because of hidden suspicious outbound malware activity for domain podcash.net. When I expressed my concerns they suddenly went silent and would not reply to any further correspondence. If you don't need to be a rocket scientist to find this suspicious. Your details you enter when "registering"are mined and passed on to who know where. Since then I have passed their details on to the labour office and immigration to look into because if you take a good look it seems pretty certain they are not a registered business in this country and are operating illegallly.

I have used them since Expat TV went off and had good service not experiencing any of the problems you have.
There are a larger choice of channels + videos to watch, in my opinion good value for money.
Why would you report them to the authorities?
So you have had a problem with them, why would you want to screw up everyones else viewing?
