Yes Jack . The tracking in all cases was done through the loyalty cards.Which I no longer use at all in any shops, even though Robinsons offer some good deals to holders .jackspratt wrote:I am confused as to how cash purchases at Tesco could be tracked - unless a loyalty card was involved.

tb, I hope you or your family isn't using a smartphone.
Homepro loyalty card gives you 5% discount. I believe Index does the same. As does Robinson's sometimes. You can't shop at Makro without a Makro card. If you use a mobile phone (doesn't even have to be smart), your phone company will know about where you were when you made/received any phone calls....who called, when, how long.
While I don't agree with their reasoning, I'm beginning to understand what's behind doomsday preppers more and more. There are some mighty caves in Nongbualamphu.......would be a good location if you want to escape the world. Otherwise, I'd prefer embracing it. Yes, I purchased some underwear at Tesco yesterday......whoopee doo.

Makro card is not needed to shop there - I am living evidence of that fact.parrot wrote: You can't shop at Makro without a Makro card.

You're right, I think they use a generic one or the one that Dzhokhar left behind while visiting town.
But back to loyalty cards.......are you really concerned that a store knows what you're buying? I subscribe to the NYT online.......every few months, the paper (??) will send me an email and tell me what articles I read and offer to highlight similar ones in the future for me to read. Seems like a service to me......but I guess some would consider it an invasion of privacy. Back in the old days, the only people who knew you were reading the obit page was you.
