Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
If this news report turns into policy you need to ask yourself a few questions:
1. Do I have the income/cash and wish to bring it onshore?
2. Can I get or afford the medical cover, or wish to change my current cover arrangements?
3. Do I have another option...work/study/marriage?
or
4. Considering the above do I want to stay in Thailand?
I am surprised at the scale of the increase and add on rules, but not that there may have been a revision of the 50+ option.
There has been widespread abuse of the old scheme with agents getting extensions under the table.
I collect my married visa next week!

Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
Wi the existing 1 year retirement visa still be an option?
Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
It is a usual well thought out this ,over 50, 3mil, med insurance , most fail on the 3mil ( and those who would lock it away in this country , not ), more who have previous medical conditions and also those over a certain age can't get medical ins ,
yep another brainstorming session needed , not with standing and still have to do the 90 day reports , ha yes right ,

Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
So my question is , Does the yearly 800,000 in bank type still exist???
Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
Glad you said that bumper. To put 100 k sterling or even less in the bank in Thailand and get some health insurance after a lifetime of work shouldn't cause much problem for an expatbumper wrote:I have met those qualifications for years now, so a welcome change to me/
The 90 day reporting is still a pain in the backside but I'm sure that is much to do with our own embassies wanting to know that all's well.
Anyway, OT shouldn't really comment on this at this stage because it doesn't effect me.

The Thai government has wanted the "cheap Charlie" retirees out for a long time, and it looks like they are finally going to get it done.
The next big change, I suspect, will be for marriage visas. Look for big increases in requirements there in the near future as well.

10 year visa for senior tourist
There is an article in the Bangkok post about a 10 year visa for senior tourist. Can anybody tell me if those of us that are here on a Non-Immigrant O-A retirement Visa will have eventually have their Non-Immigrant O-A Visas replaced by this 10 year visa ?

An article in the Asian Corespondent states the following.
"Although the cabinet did not announce when it would be implemented, Athisit said the new policy would replace the one-year renewable visas and needed to be renewed every five years."
Is this the end of the Non-Immigrant O-A Visas and the current requirements to do the yearly extensions ?

aging tourist visa exponent is me, so does pf-flyer's quote bode well or ill for the over 50 traveller, who doesnt have the 3 mill bt and the swish health insurance...is it a culling of the lambs..??? another way of elbowing some out

I think all of us who have been here awhile can view this a couple of ways.maaka wrote:aging tourist visa exponent is me, so does pf-flyer's quote bode well or ill for the over 50 traveller, who doesnt have the 3 mill bt and the swish health insurance...is it a culling of the lambs..??? another way of elbowing some out
1. It really won't affect the one-year visa for over-50 retirees because all the info isn't out yet. That's quite an uneasonable jump from one year to ten years. I think we'll see clarification in due time.
2. If it does eliminate the one-year visa for over-50 retirees (which I think would be not very well thought out), it's not likely to affect the one-year marriage visa (which is a ton of paperwork more for immigration). I doubt that they'll push out all of the legitimately married foreigners and leave the Thai national families in a lurch. Yes, there are lots of phony marriages out there, but they eventually find them anyway.
Aside from that, they could have made a ton of money with a reasonable fee (say 12,000 to 15,000 baht) for a 5-year visa for those who always report on time, have no criminal record while staying here, and meet the current minimum financial standard. However, for me, nothing is worth the longer visa stay if I had to keep showing up every 90 days. I just as soon keep what I have.

No, I don't think you're wrong. I saw something about a "renewal" of sorts after five years, but as usual, there aren't enough details to decipher what exactly is going on.DuiDui wrote:The info i have at the moment is actually NOT 1x10 year,it's 2x5 year...But maybe i'm wrong for the first time in my 58 years

1. December will be the day for implantation
Properly have been answered before. But has they being talking about the 1 year extension, like the most of us get down here Non 0 + 1 Year extension as many call retirement visa.
I was thinking about the old 2* 60 days TV suddenly become 1 Time only (60+ 30 days Extension), after implantation of the new 6 month TV

WOW..you guys just go on and on, following the rabbit who led you down this rabbit hole.
If any of you follow the news dailey and made references of all that has passed in the last 90 days, then you may have a clue to where this "garbage you are peddeling" is taking you.
I have 3 reasons why your junk is garbage, and I will tell you in a couple days. Right now, you guys make me laugh, so I want to hear from you "Mister Think He Knows Everything"
State your stuff...........

Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
I did understand that it will same as corrent NON-OA, but period is longer. Valid 5 years and every time you come in, you get 5 years stamp. Like now with one year OA visa gives one year every time you come to country. It is one year visa, but gives two years.DuiDui wrote:The info i have at the moment is actually NOT 1x10 year,it's 2x5 year...But maybe i'm wrong for the first time in my 58 years

Loophole is that with visa you are not getting any grandfatherin, but with extension you will get.

"However, it has still yet to be made clear whether the 10-year “long-stay” visa will replace the existing one-year visa option, or become an additional visa option for people wanting to stay in the country long-term.

Can't see the one year retirement visa being scrapped else most would not meet the requirements and leave los.it seems the more money you have the longer they want you here.wouldnt liked to of paid for the Thailand elite visa thing and they come out with this scheme.
Re: BREAKING: Govt approves 10 year visas for foreigners over 50
I see where the price is 10,000 Baht. I wonder if that is a single or multi-entry visa? If single how much would the multi-entry cost?
