I read the delay as many MPs trying to avoid Brexit altogether. No Brexit still looks like a significant possibility to me if the EU doesn't throw the UK out of the EU next week.

I don't think that's correct. I recall reading in a British paper that some or even many EU countries will barely be affected by the UK leaving the EU. They don't do much trade with the UK. Some such as the Netherlands, Germany and France will be more affected but not to the extent of the UK. The UK, while by world standards still a large economy, is very small compared to the EU.

It looks to me as if the EU is sick of Brexit and keen to force the UK to make its decision sooner rather than later. The UK has now had years to work this out.

MPs have been urged to take taxis home from Parliament and not travel alone in the coming days, over security fears.

Deputy Speaker Lindsay Hoyle has written to all MPs ahead of potentially crunch Brexit votes next week.

"I have never felt this level of tension during my time in the House and I am aware other colleagues feel the same," wrote Mr Hoyle.

He said regional police forces have been told to be aware of tensions both at Westminster and locally.

He added that the Metropolitan Police has been told it must take a lead to ensure MPs can vote without fear.

Special provisions to allow MPs to be collected from the Parliamentary estate by taxi have been introduced.

MPs have also been advised to travel with colleagues, rather than on their own.

Earlier, anti-Brexit Independent Group MP Anna Soubry said she was unable to go home this weekend because she was facing "serious" death threats.

EU leaders, such as Macron, are now having to step into the shoes of the British government and to help govern the UK. Hopefully this is only a temporary measure. Many Brits won't be happy at big brothers such as France doing this but to outsiders the UK appears to be becoming ungovernable.

Unfortunately, over the last thirty years or so, we Brits have allowed ourselves to become dominated by a self appointed politically astute combination of politicians and news media. Their agenda has been that they know best, and we the people of Britain should learn to do as they say, and not as they do. So successful has this takeover been, that no one is prepared to speak out against any issue favoured by this coalition for fear of being branded as racist/sexist/ageist or any other ...ist you can think of.

As a result of this, Britain is now governed by a parliament of MPs who believe they are there to dictate to the people what the people should accept. The concept that the people require a Government to serve the needs and interests of the people has been subjugated to the belief that the personal ambitions and agendas of the MP are paramount.

Hence, although the expressed wish of the people is to leave the EU, it is NOT the wish of a majority of MPs, media barons and senior civil servants. So they will do all they can to prevent it. Just wait for the delay, followed by a campaign for another referendum etc (as per Scotland).

Whether one voted to leave the EU or to remain, the loser has been British democracy, for we have created a new ruling elite.

Perhaps the British population will wake up and realise that sleazebags they would not invite into their homes are yet elected as MPs.
