I believe that there is indeed global warming. The earth has been going through cycles for millions of years. The big question is what is causing it. I believe that this carbon tax thing is a massive scam to make money. Even Thailand is cashing in on the scam.
Agree.

Yes the climate has been changing for centuries, and there were even periods of time where it was warmer than it is now with no industrialization, no autos, no airline transportation.

TBH, Lone Star, although I tried, I see little point in continuing this conversation with you. As much as I enjoy intellectual discussion and debate, you simply dismiss any facts or ideas with which you do not agree as part of the conspiracy. Hard to have a good discussion in the face of that type of approach.

Also, you still haven't answered an earlier question: Does God control our climate?

Since my last two responses were agreeing with the posts of others, you must feel the same about them. 555

I have no idea if God controls the climate. Do you know? :)

Well, they did it again.

Believers caught lying to push their agenda.

https://link.springer.com/article/10.10 ... 017-0020-z

Dubbed "Tidalgate", two scientists have been able to show that data was manipulated to show a rise in sea levels at an accelerated rate. The whistle was blown by two Australian scientists Dr. Albert Parker and Dr. Clifford Ollier in a paper for Earth Systems and Environment.

The raw (unadjusted) data from three Indian Ocean gauges – Aden, Karachi and Mumbai – showed that local sea level trends in the last 140 years had been very gently rising, neutral or negative (ie sea levels had fallen). After the evidence had been adjusted by tidal records gatekeepers at the global databank Permanent Service for Mean Sea Level (PSMSL) it suddenly showed a sharp and dramatic rise.

The paper – Is the Sea Level Stable at Aden, Yemen? – examines the discrepancies between raw and adjusted sea level data in Aden, Karachi and Mumbai.

Kenneth Richard at No Tricks Zone reports:

The authors expose how PSMSL data-adjusters make it appear that stable sea levels can be rendered to look like they are nonetheless rising at an accelerated pace.

The data-adjusters take misaligned and incomplete sea level data from tide gauges that show no sea level rise (or even a falling trend). Then, they subjectively and arbitrarily cobble them together, or realign them. In each case assessed, PSMSL data-adjusters lower the earlier misaligned rates and raise the more recent measurements. By doing so, they concoct a new linearly-rising trend.

There is nothing per se wrong with PSMSL making adjustments in order to make the different datasets align. What is wrong is the way that the scientists at PSMSL have adjusted them. In every case, they have revised them in order to make them produce a sharp upward trend in sea level rise – despite the fact that global records do not support this.

Every time something like this is revealed, more people on the fence turn their backs on the Believers. Besides the fact that Believers can't answer basic and specific questions about their mission and goals, the Believers get caught doing unethical things like this.

Are you saying the Deniers never do or never have done unethical things with data to suit their agenda?

Also, out of 1000 people, how many would you say give two chihuahua farts about any of this?

You've got this expressed like there's this epic conflict between significant masses. Maybe two or three really bored retirees? :badteeth:

Climate change is occurring. So?

The question has never been whether it is occurring or not. The question is this: In what MEASURABLE and SPECIFIC way can man affect climate?

As I have stated before, even scientists who are believers acknowledge that one volcanic eruption, and other natural events that are uncontrolled, can wipe out years of any reversals that Believers think can be made.

So my questions are:
1. How specifically will this climate change be attacked? What is going to be done to slow, stop or reverse what Believers claim is happening?

2. Who is going to determine how much tax anyone should pay regarding their emissions when we can't even find out what the funds are going to be specifically used for -- and whether or not any measurable change can even occur?

3. How can we be sure that the emissions are being offset? By the same guys who are getting caught manipulating data in their climate models?

4. What measurable changes can the world population witness as a result of all of this revenue-producing taxation?

I've yet to read anything that answers any of these questions in a specific way. It's as if everyone is just supposed to get on board and cough up money.

The Earth is warming. Definitely in part due to pollution caused by the massive use of CO2 emissions.

There is a greater conspiracy by the gas industry to offset regulation upon them by way of calling global warming a conspiracy, than there is for any particular group of scientists or governments to profit by way of taxing us for carbons.

So far LS you have confirmed you don't believe in God. Or gave an answer that was purposely elusive with regard to asking if I have tattoos.

Do you think the Earth is Round or Flat?

Do you think the Earth is Warming, Cooling, or Neither?

Do you think there's a widespread conspiracy to tax us all for carbon use?

Do you accept that the gas industry would manipulate the facts to protect itself or think they are honorable and above such crimes?

Or will you just twist all these questions around and avoid answering them, instead pouncing on the easy posts by others which insult you personally?

NEW IDEA: Since we all dispute the sources of the facts presented by the other side, and since the matter will never be resolved, I vote that this thread be relegated to NOT be displayed in the main Udonmap Home Page thread display, but rather assigned to a NEW forum category called "Hopelessly Endless Debates" which would only be visible in the forum index through a couple clicks, but NOT on the main Home Page.

If the debate took a turn for the better, e.g. it wasn't just a showcase for manipulating facts to fit the argument, it could be voted back into the main public display.

Except we were warmer than this before about 125,000 years ago.

Apparently, Earth survived.
