Now, if I could only kill my infatuation with cheese :(
If you need to cut dairy out of your diet but still need a cheese fix Villa Market has a selection of vegan (mock) cheeses. They also have nutritional yeast flakes that can be sprinkled on food to give it a cheesy flavor.

If your going on a complete vegan diet they also stock some mock meats now.

Wow, I must be out of it these days, I just went into Villa and I didn't see vegan cheese or nutritional yeast. Thanks for the tip. The vegan cheese will be a little reward for when I hit the 20kg loss point... 4 kgs to go. Twenty years ago my Dr told me I'd probably have a heart attack in a few years if I kept up my work stress (SV start-ups) and diet... going 100% vegan/WFPBD fixed half the problem within months, so going strict WFPBD (Whole Food Plant Based Diet) I know works. If it takes another 20 years of straying from the path to get back to where I was four months ago I think that will be fine for me.

What is vegan cheese made from? I've never heard of it.

Congrats on the weight loss, thats alot! Last year my cholesterol was very high so I cut out all red meat for 6 months. Got checked again and the numbers showed a marked improvement, but still high enough that my Doctor wanted to put me on statins, which I declined. I'd rather just change what I eat. Been trying to eat WFPB for the last 3 months now, but cheese has been the hardest thing to give up.

The vegan cheese is Daiya brand in the dairy section with the rest of the cheeses. Nutritional yeast is Bobs Red Mill brand, next to the flour and baking stuff.

Vegan cheese is a non-dairy or plant cheese analogue aimed at vegans and other people who want to avoid animal products, including those who are lactose-intolerant.[1] As with plant milk, vegan cheese can be made from seeds, such as sesame and sunflower; nuts, such as cashew,[2] pine nut, and almond;[3] and soybeans, peanuts, coconut oil, nutritional yeast, tapioca,[4] and rice, among other ingredients. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegan_cheese

16kgs, you'd think that was a lot, but when I look straight down I still can't see my sleeping willy. Stop right there people, I know what you're thinking... I've been told it has perfectly acceptable dimensions, thank you very much

Thanks for the tips on locating those items. Keep going on the diet and I'm sure you can avoid the meds. The problem I see is that once you start taking the meds, it is never ending and then it will be another med, and another. No thanks!!

I too have ordered a 250 gram bag of Red Cliff beans. Time will tell. I don't use PayPal so going to the bank to make a transfer is a pain. I hope it will be worth it. If it is good, I'll order a kilo the next time.

It would have no animal products whatsoever.

"Depending on the brand and recipe that’s used, vegan cheese can be made from soy protein (used in shiny, slick, rubbery varieties), solidified vegetable oil (like coconut, palm, or safflower) nutritional yeast, thickening agar flakes, nuts (including cashews, macadamias, and almonds), tapioca flour, natural enzymes, vegetable glycerin, assorted bacterial cultures, arrowroot, and even pea protein."

http://www.organicauthority.com/foodie- ... de-of.html

These kinds of products used to be rare but with the surge in veganism they're more and more common and popular. Being vegan these days is a lot easier compared to 15 or 20 years ago. There's now heaps of vegan junk food around in farangland. Not just coke and chips.

For Udon Map's info and because of his legal background, Gary Francione (Rutgers School of Law) is arguably the high priest of vegan legal scholars. He's rather uncompromising and a lead warrior in vegan infighting. Vegans like brawling with each other as much as posters on Udon forum.

Anyone from the US will no doubt be familiar with Kraft Velveeta. I love it and my friends bring some back for me from their US visits. Melting a slice of it on fried eggs or a burger makes a great cheesy tasting sandwich. It also makes a better toasted cheese sandwich than real cheese. It is probably not too good for you because it will keep forever. It likely has a lot of preservatives. It does taste more like cheese than most dairy cheese products available here in Thailand.

I totally wasted 360 baht. I made a mistake buying ground coffee. It was ground so fine that it clogged the filters on my espresso maker, drip percolator and also cannot be used in my French press. Don't buy DE STANDARD -medium roast Roasted & Ground coffee. I will try different brand of medium roast beans.

I complained and was told that the Coffee was ground for an automatic filter machine. Whatever that means. I won't make the mistake of buying DOUWE EGBERTS coffee again. Maybe it will fertilize some of my wife's flowers.
I have been drinking the medium roast Red Cliff coffee for several days. Unfortunately I can't say that I am impressed. It has no bitter taste but it also has no strong coffee taste. I like my coffee strong. I have been mixing it with a cheap brand dark roast until it is used up. I'm not saying it is bad coffee but not worth the premium cost and having to go to the bank to pay for it. I'll be continuing my different brand testing. Lazada has dozens if not hundreds of different brands of beans. I don't know if their ratings mean much but I'll be testing the ones rated five stars. That will probably take me a year or longer to get through them all.

If you are into something with bitterness and strength and don't want to wait for the lazada delivery, give Nayung Extra a go. They have a shop at the airport, right beside the exit from arrivals to the left on the way towards the new terminal. They also have Nayung Medium which is what it says on the tin. Grab a bag of both and maybe grind something that meets your expectations?

Also not overly impressed with the Redcliff coffee; it's ok but to me, doesn't have sufficient taste.

I'll finish up the 500g bag, try anuvva make & post up my findings.

I received the coffee at home but was in Jomtien for eleven days. I'm now back home and have tried the VINZ beans. Using the same measure to grind the beans, I found it much stronger, maybe a bit too strong but drinkable. So far, I have discovered that for my taste, the beans have to be a blend with some robusto for strong flavor I like. I have reduced the amount I grind per cup and decided that this is as good as I have ever used. BUT, the search continues.

Usually 100% content indicates a quality product, but in the case of coffee I find that a ratio of 70/30 arabica/robusta gives a better cup of coffee. You need to play with the ratio when using different brands of beans. I have found only one shop in Udon which will ask me what ratio I require.

I find an Aeropress to be the best for my coffee as easy to change the taste (using the same bean) by changing the amount used and the brew time
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left

The experts recommend that the beans be ground fine. I had my grinder set almost as fine as it goes. Today I changed the grind setting to about the middle then one step back toward fine. I had remarked that the dark roast was maybe too dark and the coffee was a little bitter. The medium grind makes a much better cup of coffee. The bitterness is gone. I rate this coffee as very good.

My current preference is for the Doi Chang Professional Full-City roast that is an Arabica medium roast, they class it as a light roast. I get it from Lazada and keep it in the freezer until I make it. And at 540 per kg it's a good price I think.
https://www.lazada.co.th/-i224136636-s3 ... =true&mp=1

For me cold brewing is my preferred method, that way I can keep enough for a few days and get a much less acidic coffee that never goes rancid if kept walk or hot.

Love this thread. I really like Paksong Bolovens Gold--Lao coffee, from the Boloven Plateau. I look for it when I make visa runs to Laos, but have never seen it for sale in Thailand. Maybe it's on Lazada?

https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/laos ... index.html

Thailand also produces some very good coffee. One of my neighbors is a French guy named Alain, who owns a coffee roasting company called Symphonies on the Ring Road very close to the entrance to Ruysuk Hotel. He has coffee beans from many different areas of Thailand and will roast the beans to your specifications. His minimum is only one kilo. Not cheap, but hey, it doesn't get any fresher than to watch the beans come out of the big burlap sacks and go into the roaster as you watch.

Alain is extremely knowledgeable about coffee and will share that with you. Ask to sample! He was brought from France to Thailand in 1993 by the Royal Projects Agency to help develop the Thai coffee industry, so he knows his stuff. Because I want less caffeine, I usually get my beans roasted to what he calls, "mocha."

The beans go right into my home freezer and we only grind a small amount at a time. Also, I've found that using the best tasting water I can find leads to better tasting coffee. Maybe that's not really necessary, but I like to hedge my bets.

Mixing robusta and arabica beans is a common practice, but some would argue coffee houses do it as a money-saving measure.

http://worldofcaffeine.com/2011/10/21/c ... after-all/

Beyond Cafe's locations are my favorite for an Americano. Cheap prices, good coffee, nice decor, and pleasing eye candy.

The trendy-looking coffee place up by Ban Na Ka on the way to Nong Khai is called RJ8, I think. Look for the black-and-white sign on the west side of the highway that says COFFEE BAKERY. (See the photos)

But their coffee is very bitter--maybe they burn the beans like Starbucks, or simply grind them extremely fine.

I don't consider myself a fussy coffee drinker, but I know what I like. I have gone through drip, french press, steam espresso and pour through coffee makers. I have tried many different ground and coffee beans. I always went back to Red cup instant.

I finally got serious and bought a Delonghi single cup espresso maker. Expensive, but it makes decent coffee. I even bought a cone type expensive bean grinder. The grind type, fine to coarse does make a big difference. Our village water is very hard and even clogs up my shower head so I use nothing except filtered rain water for coffee. Even with the best equipment I am still searching for the perfect beans. I have no idea how many different brands of beans I have tried. I tried single origin and the expensive pea-berry types. I was sticking to different roasts of Arabica . Then I tried some blends. I have decided that for my taste, I need a dark roast blend of Arabica and Robusta. I like my coffee strong and to taste like coffee but not bitter coffee. Right now, I have four different types of beans mixed together, some cheap and some expensive. Actually I just wanted to use up all the different beans to get rid of them. Anyways the coffee is pretty good but no way could I ever duplicate that mix. I'm now down to about half a kilo and will soon order some more beans. The search continues.
