"Jurgen Klopp admits Liverpool's squandering of a three-goal lead in the 3-3 draw with Sevilla was a "misjudgement" by his players and has no concerns about their character"

Thank heavens for that :-$

I thought for a minute that it might have had something to do with the fact that Klopp had the wrong players, playing the wrong style of football at the wrong time on the field.

Glad to know he takes no responsibility for the tactics, substitutions or the abysmal lack of defending himself

Chelsea at a stroll without using second gear or breakling sweat against 10 men. Hazard played up front with Willian & pedro and was replaced by Morata after about 60 mins. Scorers Hazard (pen). Willian, Fabregas (pen), then Willian with the best of the night.

Last night......
FC Qarabag 0 Chelsea 4......Chelsea comfortably into the last 16th.
FC Basel 1 Manchester United 0.....United miss the chance to qualify for the knockout stages, losing to an 89th minute goal, but can still afford to lose their last match to CSKA Moscow by 6 goals and still go through.
Paris St.Germain 7 Celtic 1.....Celtic scored in the 1st minute then were absolutely hammered. They are still favourites to grab a Europa League spot,though.......talking of which.....tonight its....
Everton v Atalanta and FC Koln v Arsenal.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

5-5-5 !!
Firstly, congratulations to this weeks competition winner,747man,who correctly predicted the number of goals to be scored by Atalanta in their Europa League tie at Goodison Park.......5. :D
For his prize,747man wins the vacant managers position at Everton FC.....well,nay other bugger will want it so why not ?

Final score was Everton 1 Atalanta 5

Some snippets from the BBC......

"Everton were thrashed 5-1 by Atalanta in the Europa League at a less-than-half-full Goodison Park.
The Toffees had already been eliminated before the game but caretaker manager David Unsworth selected a strong side featuring Wayne Rooney, Kevin Mirallas and Ashley Williams.
The Italian visitors went ahead after 12 minutes, midfielder Bryan Cristante converting from close range after Ashley Williams' weak clearance.
With just 17,431 people watching, Everton goalkeeper Joel Robles saved Alejandro Gomez's penalty and follow-up early in the second half but Atalanta doubled their lead through Cristante's second.
Sandro Ramirez scored his first goal for the Toffees to cut the deficit but substitute Robin Gosens' well-struck dipping volley beat Robles before Danish striker Andreas Cornelius' brace made it worse as Atalanta sealed qualification to the knockout stage.

Robles saves Everton from total humiliation
When Cristante struck the opener, it was the 16th time Everton had conceded first in their past 18 games.
No wonder the small crowd present barely groaned. With summer signing Michael Keane again struggling throughout and Williams slow and clumsy, only second-choice goalkeeper Robles' heroics prevented an even more humiliating scoreline.
He saved Gomez's penalty after Williams' wild challenge on Cristante and acrobatically kept out Martin de Roon's goal-bound header.

Owner Farhad Moshiri appears to have failed in an attempt to prise Marco Silva from Watford, and will have to redouble his efforts to find the right man after this.

'Complete and utter shambles' - analysis

Bill Kenwright prides himself on being a great salesman - best of luck selling the idea David Unsworth should be given the job until the end of the season.
Everton's search for a manager has lost its way so badly I half expect Ronald Koeman to be offered it before long. :D

Social media reaction

Goodison was notable for its empty seats as Everton's woeful Europa League campaign got even worse
Former Independent sports writer Brian Viner: Everton humiliated again. Not even Shakespeare could write a tragedy in which so much optimism evaporates so quickly. William, that is. Craig might have a bash.
Matt Robinson: Unsworth is drowning, players out of position, no consistency. Conceding goals. Really worrying now.
Joseph McClarnon: Even if we haven't got a manager to appoint full time we need a new caretaker.

Worst in 21 years - the stats
Everton suffered the heaviest home defeat for an English club in the Uefa Cup/Europa League since March 1996 (Nottingham Forest 1-5 Bayern Munich).
Everton have won just a point in the Europa League this term; only one English club has picked up as few from their opening five group games in either the Champions League or Europa League (Blackburn in 1995-96).
Everton have now conceded two or more goals in eight straight games in all competitions. The last time that happened was part of a nine-match run from April to September 1994.
It was only the 27th time in Everton's history they have conceded five or more goals at home."

Rumour now has it that Theresa May is about to appoint Bill Kenwright as the new head of EU Brexit negotiations after being impressed with him overseeing Evertons exit out of Europe, without fuss,in just a couple of months !

The other Europa League match with British interest ended FC Koln 1 Arsenal 0 but Arsenal are qualified for the knockout stages and likely to be joined by Celtic.
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Putting out a bunch of kids and getting beaten by a quality team is nothing to be ashamed of =;

Putting out most of your first X1 and getting thrashed by a team that unexpectedly finished 4th in Serie A last year was [-X
They celebrated last years unexpected finish by buying 2 star players in the summer to strengthen their team (one from Relegated Middlesborough and the other from relegated Hull City). :-& :-$

United & Basel go through out of Group A.
PSG & Bayern out of Group B & somehow Celtic manage to qualify for the Europa!!
After a mixed campaign Chelsea qualify second with Roma going through as winners. Atletico have not looked themselves for much of the qualifiers but must be among the favourites for the Europa now.
No surprises, finally, in Group C where Barca win it & Juve take second..

Do Liverpool want to win group "E" or would being second benefit them?

If they win the group they can draw Juve/Bayern/Real Madrid/Basel/Shakhtar or Napoli/Porto or Leipzig.

If they finish second they will get ... Barca/Roma/PSG or Besiktas

Note:- If Liverpool win their group Chelsea's only possible opponents are Barca/PSG or Besiktas

When Pool get a grab on a game lately they really make it pay.. :D
They qualify top & Sevilla second, with Spartak sent to the Europa.
I am not sure if tactics were involved away last night by Citi...but they lose (shock, horror), which allows Shaktar to take second spot & Napoli relegated to the Europa.
Porto grab the second spot in Group G as unfortunate Liepzig have to take consolation with a Europa spot. Poor Monaco, ripped apart in the summer transfer market, have had an awful Champions League run.
Spurs, on the other hand, have exceeded expectations in the competition. Dortmund limp into the Europa just because they were never thrashed quite so badly as bottom placed Apoel Nicosia... :D

Apollon Limassol 0 Everton 3
Arsenal 6 BATE Borisov 0

11 changes in the Toffee's side & they managed their only win in the competition.. :D
The Gunners romp home in top spot as Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott finally get a game & impress against fairly average opposition..
