Finding a lost love

Post by maaka » June 12, 2011, 3:10 pm

if someone here was to tell me exactly where this Non Song , Non Soong , Non sung is located, then I will decide if I can help you.. At the moment I am not sure if it is in Udon, Chiangmai or Korat.

my ex's papa who speaks english and is 67yrs, worked on the airforce base at Udon, and around. He's a hungry little tuk tuk driver now. It may be possible to slip him a photo or two, of this woman, or her village, or where she worked, something concrete, and have him ask around, and pay him for his time and effort...but if we are talking out of Udon, then I would have to come up with another plan...

that's Ban Non Soong, about 15km south of Udon on RTE 2. The U.S. Army had a base there from mid 1966 until June 1976. It's been a Thai military camp for a good many years.. Note the poster does not have the full Thai name of his former girl friend, only "Pen". I figure it would be pretty tough to find her.. Also, he's assuming that she stayed back on the farm in Thailand and there's other options.. She could have married another GI and be living in the States with the poster's kid...

Thanks fellas for the directions both location wise, and moral wise..

I am well aware of the hurdles involved in trying to locate such a person after such a length of time. Its a one in a million chance with so few details, full name, village, etc etc..

Having lost my own kids when they were babies, only to find them 14yrs later, I can understand somewhat the OP's position, and that of a child who has never come to know his father.

I am not sure I can assist the OP. I need to make some enquiries at my end before I commit. However, if I do proceed it will be done with the utmost discretion. I did not like the OP's idea of handing out the womans photo all over the place, or putting it in a local newspaper, for all the world to see, which might then only cause her and the child to loose face, or worse if she is happily married, and the child knows not of his real father. Thats why I have gingerly shown an interest, and are searching for a more discreet way to assist. Matters of this nature need to be handled with care.

Its not for me to judge the OP's actions, or state of conscience. Things just happen in love, life, and in war.

If the OP has oddles of photos, then I suggest he try an locate her village from the photos, or the other GI that travelled in the car on that trip. Thanks FDK.

Young Australian lass I met a few years ago was looking for assistance in tracking down her US flyer father who demobbed back to the US from (I think) Ubon. Her Thai mum never did get his full name, or if she did, it wasn't written down or kept anywhere. She does have a photo of him as a young black man in his Judo gear as he was a pretty good martial artist apparently. I think there's a first name and a date range when he was there (just around the time the Thais requested the US military to vacate the country) but nothing else.

I am not sure if there's any organisations that assist with hooking up SE Asian progeny with their errant sperm donaters but she is keen enough to find him.

actually the U.S. Government ran an Asian-american repatriation program in Vietnam through at least 2001.. Individuals who could show evidence of a U.S. father got an interview and if the preponderance of evidence showed a U.S. father they could get an Immigrant visa to the States. In Thailand, nothing similar occurred. During the time of the Vietnam War, half-farang kids had citizenship issues due to the Thai government requiring both parents to be Thai to gain all the appropriate bureaucratic checks to gain Thai citizenship. Unless of course, the original birth certificate showed a Thai father, despite the Farang looks.. The Farang kids weren't the target, it was the influx of refugees in the 50's from Vietnam (Sakon Nakon area and others) which caused the Thai government to pass the two Thai parent law. It was later abolished and to my knowledge half-Farang kids don't have any citizenship issues any more.

To obtain U.S. citizenship back then, the mother had to get the American father to do all the paperwork to prove the "Birth of a U.S. citizen abroad" something that most 7th RRFS (NonSoong camp) would probably not have done since most had Top Secret clearances and would lose them, their job and be quickly sent back to the States if they applied to marry a Thai or showed a "close and continuous" relationship with a foreign national (as in having a kid)...

Tamada, if I was the Aussie girl I would narrow down my search via the name of the US Tactical Fighter Squadron based in Ubon at the time, possibly the 435th TFS, who were there until August 1974 as part of the 8th TFW..the 308th and 58th TFS were there in uo until 1973...if you have a date and a pic and a name, and a dark skinned fellow into judo, then send some pics off to the respective squadron vets for an ID

Gene Ponce, an Air Force veteran, used to run a service doing this sort of thing. I'm not sure if he's still doing it.....but you could start at this link
