That is a good comprehensive service offered to the citizens of your country by the Embassy Orky.
I am afraid that British citizens can only stand by in amazement when they compare the way that our Embassy treats our citizens... :( :(

Speak for yourself - I have always been treated very well by the British Embassy.

Just a question re marrying a Thai national - when registering the marriage at a district office (amphur), can it be done easily in Udon (even if the girl is from another province)?

Simple answer to that Nick. YES. Providing you have the necessary documents from your embassy you can marry at any amphoe in the country .Doesn't matter where she is from as long as she is Thai.

Thanks TB. is it easy to do...get married that is. You just need a letter from your Embassy, then you are good to go.

Yes its so easy I have done it three times . Seriously though, it is easy ,however if your lady is marrying outside of her registered home town she might not be able to change her surname to yours on her ID without visiting her own amphoe . Some will , some won't . My friend who is the local registrar tells me anywhere can, but it is up to the individual officer . I am sure you won't want to know, but divorcing is even easier , just 20bht and you don't even need an embassy letter . :-"

Hi,
Got married in Udon just over twelve months ago. I got married in the Family Office in Udon, Th. Phosi road. 2nd floor.
Had to get a letter from B. Embassy that i was free to marry. I was devorced in 1990. Required divorce papers for this.
They only wanted to see my P.P., Birth cert. and letter from my Embassy which had my address on it, in the family off., did not ask for house book, but it is best to have everything with you.
Wife had been married before to a Thai, and she needed her divorce papers also, and her I.D. card.
If your wife wants to, she can change her name to yours by going to the office where they issue the I.D. cards and get her name changed.
The dearest part was getting these papers officially translated to English. I needed to do this this to send to my pensions offices back home, I did this because if anything happend to me she would be entitled to 50% of one of my pensions, and a widows pension from the other.
Whole lot just took about one and a half hours. And painless. Did not know we were married till i got the wife to tell me what the papers were. Felt like a fool when she told me they were our marriage certs..
Still it saved a lot of money and we had a good two week holiday on it, with money left over.

House book is not a requirement, but this is an opportune time to go ahead and update the wife's bluebook with her new name, and address if there is a change in that as well. Plus, now that you're married you can go ahead and get your yellow book showing the same address as your new wife. I did all this at the same time as the marriage. Thai driver's license and yellow book sure ward off a lot of red flags and shorten red tape.

Hi,
Semperfiguy. Excuse me not knowing, what is a yellow book. When I bought the house 5 years ago all we had was a little blue book and also a letter from the firm that sold us the house. Carry this with me whenever i go to get anything official done. Have only been asked for it once in five years. I have Thai D/L. motor bike and car.
Cheers Doug.

Douglas, for a full explanation of the yellow house book you can go to the home page of www.udonmap.com, put your computer mouse icon over the "Information" link at the top of the page then click on "Yellow House Books". That will take you to a thread that will give you the answers that you are looking for. It makes for good reading!

God Bless!
