The wife, kid & I went there tonight and I can only reiterate what has been said previously that this is a first-class place. Considering it’s just around the corner from us we will be visiting again very soon. Without mentioning any names, it beets any restaurant/hotels between Udon & Nong Khai.
We also got our UM 10% discount card.
It's worth a trip up the road to try out.

I know the other place you aren't mentioning and I agree it's awful, going to try this place soon because it sounds great, Pete and his missus have been there a few times now and never had a bad meal.

Yes, the other place was good about 17 years ago when it first opened but not now. Staying on highway 2 about 1 kilometre further up there is another place on the left not worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed with "Gor Goong Pao" Good seating and AC.

On the recommendations of you lot ............
Took Wifey up there tonight to try it out ;)
A bit of a trek for us as we're close to the ringroad on the Kutchap lights ( a good 20kms away )

What a fantastic restaurant!!! ........... Freshly cooked prawns, crab and fish that are swimming around in small pools next to the kitchen. Excellent and quick service :D

Not a place for the small bellied or tight arses to go to! ( unless you like taking the rest home with you! )

We had the crab yellow curry, fried fish, BBQ prawns and 2 portions of shrimp fried rice to cover 2 people ......Bill? .... ฿1100 and it would've easily fed 4! ... Gonna finish it off tomorrow!

Direction advice ............... Go up the Udon/Nong Khai. After the railway crossing it's about 15kms on your left hand side. It's a big complex with a mobility aids shop, looks like a fashion outlet, a drive thru to the Namphu Resort/hotel and campsite plus the restaurant! It's all on the left together ..... Look out for the HOTEL 24 hours sign and a neon prawn!

Make sure you take some friends because the portions will go a long way! 8)
Bring back Saint

We went there at lunchtime today, with our 2 year old granddaughter, and I can only re-iterate what others have said.
The food was all fresh and absolutely delicious. We had the grilled prawns, white snapper, crab, egg fried rice,2 Leo beers for medicinal purposes ;) and the granddaughter had 3 ice lollies also.
Staff service was spot on.....very friendly and attentive.....wont hesitate to go back.
Nice to meet Udon stalwarts Simon and Pete and their families in there.
Just turn into the Namphoo Resort and the restaurant is just on your right.......once you hit the 33 kilo marker to Nong Khai you are not too far away.
Incidentally, rooms in the Namphoo Resort are just 500 baht......don't drive back bladdered with a mystery brunette in her 10 year old Volkswagen Beetle and risk the BIB catching you......your income is nowhere near Wayne Rooneys ! :D
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Had lunch there today.
Good food, warm service in an airy restaurant.
Over all, excellent.
Give it a try.

The puu nim pad phong karee (ปูนิ่มผัดผงกะหรี่) at Gor Goong Pao is excellent. I love curried soft shell crab it theirs is perhaps the best I've eaten in Thailand. Coupled with crab fried rice it makes for an outstanding meal. A real treat to be found in Isaan.

Gor Goong Pao is almost around the corner from us and rather than face the traffic in Udon we went there yesterday again. Great food and we all left very full and satisfied. Great service also.
Its good to have a decent restaurant so close at hand.

We had another really lovely lunch there today, the food, quality and service was exactly the same as our first visit, which was excellent
We feel so lucky to have this on our our doorstep without having to travel into Udon through the roadworks.
Thank you Gor Goong Pao.

Sounds like a really good restaurant.
Will have to have a trip out to try it.
Do they have a menu in English yet.
Can someone post the menu on here.

What they have is an English printed menu clipped on top of the Thai one easy to understand.

When there yesterday having another great feed I asked about the menu in English and was told it is being prepared and will be ready soon. However the lady speaks good English and you can explain what you want to eat.

Pete/Jimmy et all, do they have any non fish dishes available? Wifey and daughter love fish/seafood, but I am allergic and so have to avoid fish if possible. Would be happy to make do with Chicken fried rice and have a beer while the family get their fill, but have been to several "fish restaurants" in Thailand where they offer absolutely no alternative, so am worried about making a wasted trip.

No problem mate. Just tell your Mrs to talk to the boss lady and tell her what you want. It's a nice air conditioned restaurant and nice people who run it. Not expensive either.

Excellent lunch with Jimmy and his good wife, we both really enjoyed so much.
You are so correct Jimmy, having this on our doorstep is heaven sent, certainly the best fried rice in Udon for my taste, along with very fresh seafood cooked to perfection.

As Jimmy has stated, you will not have any problem here, I think you will be very happy with the food, enjoy.
