Couple of interesting games in the early hours for the Championship & Vale hopeful that a Friday night will bring 3 points!!

The 2 FA Trophy second legs of the semi finals also take place..

2 Championship play off pushing sides suffer unexpected defeats in the Friday night games.
City had only won twice in 22 games & then beat fellow struggler's Wigan last time out & now this thrashing of automatic spot hopefuls Huddersfield Town. Those 6 points have moved City 2 points out of the danger area to 19th. The loss leaves Huddersfield 6 points off the 2 at the top, all now having played 37 games.
The Reading result cements their play off place & leaves Sheffield Wednesday's place precarious to a rampant Fulham side now only 1 point behind & with a game in hand.

It was a fight for survival in the Friday night game in League One &, although a 2 nil scoreline might have flattered them, it was a resounding success for Vale. Still in the last drop out spot but only by 2 points & still with 2 games in hand. A loss to fellow strugglers, Shrewsbury, would have seriously damaged their hopes of avoiding the drop.

Leeds have a very satisfactory weekend, but possibly the 9 points they need to overall Brighton with only 8 games remaining is just too much.
After my big build up, Fulham have a stinker at home against Wolves & are still a point away from Sheffield.
The Iron were leading at half time but fall to a very late Oxford goal. Bradford win to go into 4th, Fleetwood can only draw so a winning Bolton grab second spot.
Town were still at the races when the visitors scored almost from the kick off. Luckily both Newport & Leyton Orient take heavy beatings. It looks like they may remain in the league due to the incompetency of 2 others rather than any personal skill on display!!
Any easy day out for Rovers as they go joint on points with Lincoln City, the year's near cup winning specialists do have 3 games in hand though..

FA Trophy
LINCOLN CITY 1-1 YORK CITY AET (AGG 2-3)
Tranmere Rovers 0-1 Macclesfield Town (Agg 1-2)

I think everyone excep Zid will be surprised that the finalists for the Trophy will be York against the Silkmen. Both were the underdogs going into the second legs & both away from home. York won the game with a penalty in the 105th. minutes - there is no 'away goals' rule in the Trophy. The other tie was a very tight affair with few chances either way. Macclesfield clinched the game with a strike in the second half to make their way to Wembley.

No,I thought a Lincoln v Tranmere final was nailed on when the draw was made.
Lincoln,top of the league and Fa Cup quarter finalists.....Tranmere,a big club all but but assured of a play off spot.

York,fighting against relegation from the Conference certainly caused a big upset.
Macc....not such a big surprise,I suppose,as they beat Tranmere in the Conference 4-2 on New Years Day.But Prenton Park always a difficult place to go to and win and I understand Macclesfield were deserved winners on the day.Attendance was 6,100.
This will be Macclesfieds 4th trip to Wembley for an FA Trophy Final but they will underestimate York at their peril as the Minstermen have had a good run of form of late.

It seems that Leyton Orient's off pitch situation is improving...

Orient owner given extra time to pay debts

Leyton Orient owner Francesco Becchetti has been given until 12 June to pay off remaining debts or sell the club at a winding-up hearing at the High Court.

The club were the subject of a winding-up petition brought by Revenue & Customs over unpaid taxes.

Those debts have been paid in full, but money is owed to four other creditors.

Chief executive Alessandro Angelieri gave the court a statement saying Becchetti would invest £1m to pay off remaining debts in eight to 10 weeks.

Being a Town fan I do have to say that I hope that it isn't followed by an on pitch improvement.

Although there are Internationals this week that does not halt Grass Roots football..

Coventry City 2-1 Port Vale
Chester 2-3 Macclesfield Town
Forest Green Rovers 2-1 Solihull Moors

Coventry surprise the division, by winning a game & actually scoring a goal. They ended a gap of 422 minutes to net their first, but then scored again within a couple of minutes to go in at the break 2 nil up. Vale only managed to get 1 back in the second half. Even with the win Coventry remain 15 points from safety with 7 to play. Vale remain 2 from safety with a game in hand..
A late winner for Macclesfield keeps them in 9th. place. They are 10 points out of the play offs but have built up a real backlog of games. They have played 3/4 games less than the others above them (except second place Lincoln who are in the same boat as the Silk men).
The Rover's last kick win takes them top by 3 points over Lincoln. The Imps suffered a rare loss last night away to Boreham Wood, but still have 3 games in hand over Rovers.

Scunthorpes last 4 games look relatively easy.....on paper,at least.
But the upcoming 3 are really tough.....you would think they will have to pick up at least 3 points from these to make it into the play offs ??

DM has changed his planned schedule to watch the Scunny Bradford game this Sunday LIVE ON SKY ... slight delay in my normal Isaan delivery trip and obviously hoping for an Iron win as anything else really isnt good enough ... with 2 massive games to follow against Bolton n Millwall it could all be over n done with if ALL these 3 fixtures dont go our way ... IMO the last 4 matches wont mean a great deal ..

Im predicting another season in L1 for the Iron ...shame after being in the top 2 most of the season but hey ho at least we are safe from relegation UNLIKE T-bar Steves Gillingham and Valiants Vale who are nipping it .

Macclesfield Town 0-2 Aldershot Town

Vale move with a point of safety with a game in hand after the draw as Shrewsbury & Gillingham both lose.
Town were infront for most of the game but then lost the plot with 20 minutes to go. They then conceded 3 goals in 10 minutes to lose again. They remain 6 points clear of the drop though as both Newport & Orient can't get any points either..
Rovers also held a goal advantage for most of the first half. Lincoln were a different side after the break though & swept the visitors away. Lincoln go top on goal difference, but still with 3 games in hand.
No joy for Macclesfield either as Aldershot beat them quite comfortably in the second half. It moves the visitors into the play off zone & realistically ends the home side's hopes of the same.
Halifax are play off contenders while FC United having been kicking around in the middle of the league for most of the season. It showed.

Leyton Orient confirm they have accepted the resignation of manager Danny Webb. The 33-year-old, son of former Chelsea stalwart David Webb, was the 10th man in charge of Orient since summer of 2014. Orient are rooted to the foot of League Two having lost their last four games, conceding 15 goals in the process.

More worries for Cheltenham Town supporters..

Orient are currently in bottom spot, 1 point below Newport, who are 6 points & 5 goal difference worse than Town.
7 games to go, all 3 having played the same number..

He had some success with the Thai national team but a poor showing in the World Cup campaign.
But if you havent got the standard of players what can you do ?
Maybe if Ronald Koeman moves to Barcelona he could take over at Everton ? Certainly,a cheap option that would appeal to the clubs owners ! :-"

Thailand coach Kiatisak resigns after disappointing World Cup qualifying campaign

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) accepted national team head coach Kiatisak Senamuang’s resignation after Thailand’s bid to qualify for the 2018 World Cup ended in disappointment.
The former Thailand international striker had led the War Elephants to plenty of success, winning the gold medal in the 2012 Southeast Asian Games, the AFF Suzuki Cup twice in 2014 and 2016.
Kiatisak, widely known as Zico, also led Thailand to the final round of the World Cup qualifiers — the second time that Thailand has ever done so in their history.
However the team had fallen short, collecting just one point from seven games.
After returning home from a 4-0 thrashing by Japan, Zico told the press it would be totally up to the FAT president whether he wanted to keep or get rid of the coach and players.
This afternoon, Pol.Gen. Somyos Pumpanmuang fired back at Zico, saying he had never thought of eliminating any players and it was not his job to do so.
The drama concluded when Zico offered his resignation and it was accepted by the FAT.

Heating up in the Championship. At the very top Newcastle & Brighton both just manage to pull off wins against the basement sides in the league. Leeds fail in a tough play off battle away at Reading, who now go above them in the Play off spots. Wednesday's poor run continues with a draw that allows a fairly pumped up Fulham into the last play off place. Just below that, Preston's unlikely surge towards a spot stumbles with a draw.
The Iron continue their slippery slide down the play off spots, but this was a tough ask away at a side also looking for a place themselves. Better news for Vale fans at the other end of the table. A good home win, coupled with other favourable results, sees them zoom up the table to 18th. spot. It is by a hare's breath though as 2 points & goal difference is all the current distance between elimination & safety.
A huge win for Town against the side now immediately above them. It was helped rather by the away side having a man sent off as the second half started, but no one will remember that come season end. Town move up a place away from danger to 21st. as Hartlepool lose at home against 1 of the play off hopefuls. Newport win to put themselves 5 points from safety, but it all looks up for the mess that is Leyton Orient as they shoot themselves in the foot again with a sending off after half an hour..6 games to go & 9 points from safety is a huge ask.
4 first half goals seal the deal for the Silkmen, but surely too late for anything except pride?? Rovers are 3rd. by 4 points now as automatic promotion is a battle between Lincoln City & Tranmere who are only separated by goal difference. City still have a game in hand, but Tranmere have come from a position of no-hope to be a real challenger..
