Grass Roots Footie 2017/18
Re: Grass Roots Footie 2017/18
Just been watching NCFC's post match huddle after the win away at 'Boro, and reading reports of the team's record breaking 5 clean sheet shut outs. Something special is starting to happen in Norwich. I thought this year would be a transitional year, but it may be happening quicker than I envisaged.
We've had Huddersfield's Sporting director Stuart Webber (who brought the unknown Wagner in) appointed and a complete change behind the scenes. Webber has stated that he believes NCFC have the best coach in the division, and he said that a month ago straight after conceding 8 goals in 2 games against Villa and Millwall...

The Shrews are flying in League 1 so no real surprise that The Iron get nothing there.Shrewsbury Town 2 0 Scunthorpe United
Chesterfield 0 2 Cheltenham Town
Stevenage 2 0 Port Vale
Forest Green Rovers 0 1 Accrington Stanley
Macclesfield Town 2 0 Aldershot Town
Town's good run continues & they now sit in mid-table comfort.
Vale, Rovers & Chesterfield are starting to be cut adrift at the bottom of the table.
Macclesfield are going nicely in the National League - just 1 point off top spot - but it is still very close at the top of that league.
Re: Grass Roots Footie 2017/18
Indeed Bob,the Conference is very tight,at the moment, with only 3 points separating the top 10 clubs.Leyton Orient,Tranmere and Hartlepool who were amongst the pre-season favourites are currently languishing in 13th,17th and 18th places.I think whichever two teams go up are likely to struggle in League 1,the same as Forest Green.
At the bottom,Torquay with no wins and just 4 points from 13 games are in deep trouble.Solihull Moors and Guiseley also in danger of being cut adrift.
Team,Played,Points.
1.Dover 13 24
2.Dagenham & R 13 23
3.Sutton Utd 13 23
4.Macclesfield 13 23
5.Maidstone 13 22
6.Wrexham 13 22
7.Woking 13 22
8.Aldershot 13 21
9.Maidenhead 13 21
10.FC Halifax 13 21

Puzzling loss for Leeds against a side that was short of confidence going into the game.Sheffield Wednesday 3 0 Leeds United
Now down to 5th. & need to get back to winning ways. The good news is that next up for them is home to a less than impressive Reading side who have not managed a win of their own for half a dozen games..
Checkatrade Trophy & National League this Tuesday night..
Cheltenham Town 19:45 Forest Green Rovers
Port Vale 19:45 Newcastle United U21
Scunthorpe United 19:45 Grimsby Town
Guiseley 19:45 Macclesfield Town

Re: Grass Roots Footie 2017/18
No TV or internet since Monday afternoon but back up and running now......both Home Cable and Truvisions affected.
So,unable to post about Macc being top of the Conference until now.....not happened for about 5 years,I think.
After this Saturday a few tough games coming up,so we'll see where Macc are at the end of the month.
The Conference is up for grabs this season......about 15 teams will fancy there chances of promotion, either automatically or via the play offs.

The Shrews have a rare stumble as they can only draw away & so Wigan close in second spot.Scunthorpe United 1 2 Wigan Athletic
Cheltenham Town 2 1 Swindon Town
Notts County 1 1 Forest Green Rovers
Port Vale 1 2 Grimsby Town
Macclesfield Town 1 0 Ebbsfleet United
Town's great run of form continues & they are now in 13th. place, while Vale, Chesterfield & Rovers are all cut 5 points adrift at the bottom..
The top 3 all win in the National League...
Re: Grass Roots Footie 2017/18
Macclesfield Town 1 Ebbsfleet United 0
Mitch Hancox got the only goal of the game at the Moss Rose as Macclesfield Town beat Ebbsfleet to stay top of the National League.
The former Birmingham City and Crawley Town midfielder fired into the roof of the net on 42 minutes, following link-up play between Danny Whitaker and Scott Wilson.
In a game played out in heavy rain, Daryl McMahon's visitors posed a stern examination of the Macc backline after the break.
But, at the other end, David Fitzpatrick and Danny Whitehead could easily have extended the hosts' lead.
Former Aberdeen, Manchester United and Scotland manager Sir Alex Ferguson was among the crowd to see Macc remain a point clear of Dover and Woking.

Re: Grass Roots Footie 2017/18
This news is actually 3 or 4 days old but Port Vale fans seem happy with the appointments on their forum.
However, the new management duo got off to a bad start yesterday with Vale losing 2-1 at home to Grimsby in front of a crowd of 5,849.
Former Port Vale defender Neil Aspin has left National League side Gateshead to return to the struggling League Two club as their new manager.
Vale, who are 22nd in the fourth tier, sacked Michael Brown on 16 September.
Aspin, 52, who made 410 appearances for Vale in 10 seasons, won 39 of his 100 games as Gateshead boss in almost two years as manager.
Former Vale boss John Rudge will also return to Vale Park to work with Aspin as the club's director of football.
Rudge, 72, previously spent almost 14 years as Vale manager from December 1984 to January 1999, encompassing almost all of Aspin's Vale career.
He then spent a further 14 years in the Potteries as director of football with Vale's neighbours Stoke City until 2013, since when he has scouted for Hull City.

After the international break, it's back to real football this weekend.
In the championship, no easy games for any of the fancied teams. The main game is, obviously, Leeds taking on Reading.
Can the mighty whites bounce back to winning ways after a couple of dire performances?
Here's hoping.

Some decent ties,including....

Dover Athletic v Bromley
FC Halifax Town v Tranmere Rovers
Scarborough Athletic v Hyde United
South Shields v Hartlepool
