Yes thats inline with mine for the same age vehicle, group1. I paid 16,000 but had two claims for shattered windscreens in the last 12 months.

Val, Marcus, does the car insurance work the same way as in the UK, i.e. a percentage reduction every year for no claims?? Can you 'protect' your no claims bonus? Do the policies have a 'excess' that you need to pay on any claim, if so, how much is it?
Thanks, Bob.

I believe motorcycle insurance is a few hundred Baht.

Bob,there is no fixed percentage reduction each year if you make no claim, but it does fall from 21000 to 18000 to 15000 in the three years for accident free driving. No protection of no claims and no excess on the policy.

When you do claim all they ask is to see your licence. You fill out a one page form and thats it.They appoint a repair garage. This was for an accident with a garden wall. :) Not me driving i hasten to add.

That is in line with mine on a similar vehicle BUT don't confuse class #1 insurance with comprehensive (as we know it) because it isn't. All catagories within class #1 have specific limits.
No claim bonuses can apply but just check the renewal notice as they generally reduce the value of your car.
As I stated in an earlier thread be careful of the insurance company you deal with. There are a number treading on very thin ice as with the one I delt with, Commercial Insurance, which Thaskin shut down about 3 months ago, I was very lucky not to have had an accident as they will not or cannot pay claims dating back to April 2005.
I can go on and on but the bottom line is "Buyer Beware". [-X

If they are willing to pay for everything after my wife drove my car through a garden wall,i think they will cover most eventualities. That is with Paiboon Insurance. :)

Thanks for the detail Marcus, very useful.
I gather from the posting that these are Thai insurance companies. I know that Health insurance can be done in Thailand with the large American (and British) companies, doesn't that apply to car insurance as well. Or is this the reserve of Thai companies only??

Yes I agree they pay out on most legitimate claims but unlike the comprehensive insurance I am familiar with in Aus all catagories have specific claim limits. In other words if I run into a "Roller" or Ferrari it's covered but I would be well and truly in the crap if I do it here.

BD,you are in fact correct.I have just dug out the Paiboon paperwork and the policy has a payout limit of 10 million Baht.

Most of the companies I approached said the same - that they will only cover up to 80% of the vehicles value. It was the same for car and bike.
My bike insurance was about 300 baht but my pick- up renewal paid today was 19000 - for the company and (compulsory)government insurance. Same price as last year (last year it was new).

Not so sure there is a no claims element in Thai car insurance. My neighbour has just got his renewel premium through on his three year old Honda and the cost is down even though he made a claim for a front end crash this year.

My basic premium would be 20,000 Baht but has 5000 Baht deductions for something they call "experiences" :)

It shall be very interesting to see if my wife's insurance premium falls again next year as we are in the process of another claim. :(
A mad dog ran out into the road and hit the car.I say dog and so do all the occupants of the car at the time but it must have been huge as it ripped the front of the car off.
