Invest in a tazer, several canisters of pepper spray, and a large caliber handgun immediately upon arrival. Set booby traps around your room and in your vehicle. Stay vigilant.

That said, it is still wise to use your street smarts and trust your gut instincts. Stupidity and poor judgment will get you into trouble here as fast as anywhere else.
My only warning is to be wary of the falang pirates in Pattaya. Many foreigners there are on the run from something or someone. If you consider yourself to be a good, honest person, be wary of any foreigner trying hard to be your friend.
Good luck, and enjoy your trip.
