Unfortunately Tam, although the Irish Clock is listed on many hotel booking sites, it is impossible to actually book a room through any of them.
No matter what dates you enter it says rooms are not available at that time.

Unless he is actually fully booked at all times (a wonderful situation in central Udon I would have thought) it is something that the owner needs to fix. It looks, to me, that he is currently losing business.

p.s. it looked fairly busy in the restaurant last night when I went by at about 7pm. so they must be doing something right... :D
And that is entirely up to Fred or whoever is running the show these days. There's only 7 rooms anyway (I think). If their blogs and FB pages are either years out of date and bereft of information, people need to get a clue. Just because one establishment doesn't appear to be doing a job of marketing itself, doesn't mean that you have to slag it off here because the Guinness was off or the waitress didn't smile 6 months ago. Just look at the puerile complaint on TA following the one I copy/pasted earlier complaining that it's "Not very Irish at all." To me, along with the dim buggers that I mentioned earlier who complained they wanted noodles instead of an expensive burger in Vietnam, it just about sums up the true value of TA. It is mostly wrote by muppets to be read mostly by muppets. I am really upset that I had to actually visit TA to reconfirm what a pile of rubbish it still is but it does indicate that the claims made in a forum members recent posts here are totally fallacious.

BTW, I once stumbled across an Irish Bar in Buenos Aires one wet afternoon that had neither Guinness nor an Ulster Fry. But their enchiladas and margaritas hit the spot. Needless to say, I didn't complain. Anywhere.

Now, if anyone wants to go down and have a beer and something to eat at the Irish Clock once the rain eases off, let me know what time. At least that will be two real customers they'll have today and not those who live here, haven't been there for months, had a somewhat lacking dining experience but just can't seem to let it go.

Hells bells, I may even ask about a room!

This might be a problem-situation created by the booking sites, not getting a big commission or much traffic they will show '' no room available "" and proposed similar venues . Happened to a friend of mine trying to book a mansion in Tokyo, the various sites kept showing '' not available " yet i was in there and plenty of empty rooms so my friend logged in directly with the mansion site and voila : problem solved. DON T fall for this '' no room available for your dates"" check with the hotel.

I think you may find that a lot small places with not a lot of rooms only allocate a couple to the booking agents so that they can full price for the remaining ones I have tried previously to book through them and the answer is not available but appear in person and pay full price not a problem, room available.

I have stayed at The Irish Clock under three different owners and always found the place to be excellent, the food is superb, the location couldn't be better, it's the only spot I can find Steak and Kidney pudding on the the menu and the breakfast can't be beat.
Fred has been a real friend on a few occasions and gone the extra mile a couple of times, especially when my son was living in Udon and you can't ask for better than that.
A lot of the negative comments on here seem typical of small town petty jealousies and that always stinks. I have owned a few pubs and there's nothing more irritating than some customer who's never owned any sort of business giving out about the business you have put your money and time into. Pubs ain't easy, add food it's tenfold the things that can go wrong, add to that you have staff cooking and serving it who haven't any natural knowledge of it and it's amazing anything comes out hot, looking like it should and tasting so damned good as every meal I have had at the clock has been.
The guy who was running it before Trevor or Fred seemed like it was all beneath him, was actively unfriendly to me as a guest and the place seemed very clicky but I am not one of those guys who feels I need to know the owner of a place.
The website works just fine for me by the way.

Nothing like the old days Trevor then Steve real landlords and great hosts.
Wrong way round for starters.

Trevor, IMO, survived on the momentum created by Steve and moved on when it was going downhill.
Not a pleasant man who 'turfed' Steve out of the fish and chip shop and converted it into a backpacker's retreat.
The only purpose it served was somewhere for the night watchman to get his head down.

Oh Christ on a bike!!!

Just got shot of one punter who persisted on dragging this thread off topic and now you come along bashing someone who is no longer running the place?

Is it something in the Udon water that spawns all these narrow, spiteful minds?

The location was all under a lease from " The Steve Graham " wasnt it ??

Trevor took over and had the occupancy for all the premises , and chose to " Backpack " it.

It was certainly busier then, but more Alien drinking and eating places have set up in Soi Farang since then, FX rates in the boots for some means some UM's have trimmed their budgets , caught a few out also , sadly.

I left Thailand in 2013 for the more civilised tranquility of France, it was a good decision.
I merely browse to see what's going on and felt the need to comment here - no spite intended.

Tamada needs to 'settle down' - or increase the prescribed dose :D .

Stayed over in Udon last night with a couple of friends to sample the bright lights of the big city. Had to leave early to get on the golf course and one of the guys asked at the Clock if we could get breakfast at 8.15 (normally opens 8.30 I believe).

They were happy to open early and we enjoyed a really nice Full English breakfast.

Great customer service.
