Loosing Weight

Post by threestags » May 21, 2014, 9:07 am

A year ago I decided I needed to lose a few kg's so I set out counting calories and limiting my daily intake to 1500 cals. In addition I would go for a walk each morning for about an hour. Sticking to this I managed to lose 1kg per week. I have now lost 25kgs and my weight is now under control. My walks have now progressed to runs and so far I am able to run 5km in 30 mins. Now I have a new goal to improve my running pace to better than 5 mins/km. I also hope to increase the distance to say 10km but that may be a few months away.

So the trick is to eat less and exercise more. You will lose weight and gain fitness. Your health will improve and you will feel great.

Cheers :D

I use the online Tescos diet because it works. You log what you eat against a cap of say, 2000 calories a day. That way, you don't resort to ridiculous milkshakes and the like but normal food. I need to go on it again as I'm starting to feel wheezy and bloated when out running. Ballooned from 75 to 80 kg over the past few months. :-"

No, I work with a little Welshman who insists on bringing biscuits into the office and I always take a handful when I make coffee.

I'm not running enough, either.

The Tescos diet will do the job, I'll be down to 75 kgs in no time.

Up to the age of 25 i was fit and strong my weight was about 90KG, for my size about right

When i was 34 i hit 132KG and decided to get fit again, hard work in the gym and carefull diet and 6 months later i was below 100KG and feeling good again

Fast forward 4 years to today, well last week.... i hit the scales again at 133KG this time 293lbs its bad

So i have started on my fitness life again to try and get to a target weight of 95KG which for my build will be perfect

Like to know if anybody has managed this before and managed to keep it off!! now having a Son im doing it for him
Well Nick, I've struggled with my weight for nearly 40 years now. It seems 30, or there abouts, is the magic age. Before that I could eat, and drink, anything I wanted and never gain a pound. Then all of a sudden it seemed like somebody turned off the metabolism switch and all I had to do was look at food to gain weight. I'm just a tad over 6ft and 133kg has been my high, several times. I've have tried absolutely every fad diet you can imagine. Here's the thing, they ALL WORK... WHILE YOU'RE ON THEM! However, most are so restrictive and so contrary to our likes that they can't possible be maintained. Some can be quite harmful to you, depending on your own particular health situation.

Losing weight is simple mathematics. You have to burn more calories than you take in. Easier said than done. The only "diet" that I've ever been able to sustain for any period of time is the so called "Adkins" diet. You severely limit carbs and eat protein and fats, which for the most part is the foods most of us love, bacon, eggs, steaks, etc. I lost 20kg on this last year. Unfortunately I've gained half of it back this year.

Regarding alcohol. If you're serious about losing weight you have to eliminate it entirely, at least in the early stages. This is for a couple reasons. First, alcohol metabolizes in the body into sugar. We all now what sugar does. And beer. Have you heard the expression, "there's a loaf of bread in every bottle"? Well, there's a grain of truth to that (pardon the pun). "Lite" beer, only half a loaf. :D You're better off drinking hard liquor, clear liquor, like Vodka, mixed with club soda and a twist of lime, not juices. But here's the caveat, liquor of any kind reduces your inhibitions. Duh! And after just a few drinks that little devil inside your head starts whispering in your ear, "Diet! WTF? YOU don't need to diet, at least not TODAY, you can start TOMORROW"!

Good luck Nick. It's far more fun putting it on than taking it off. And as others have already stated here, the older you get the more difficult it gets. Fortunately you're young enough to make some life style changes that will have long lasting effects.
Every day I wake up is a good day.

Losing Weight

Post by Udon Map » May 22, 2014, 10:32 am

Thanks for an entertaining post, Bubba. Several things you said actually made me laugh out loud.

Anyone here a Family Guy fan? One night they're all sitting at the dinner table and Meg is whining about how she just can't seem to lose weight. At which point, Brian said, "Here's a hint, Meg. Put the fork down!"

Yesterday a 73 year old American stopped into the Udon Map office around 1 p.m. He lives in Nongsamrong, up in the old Army base. He had walked here. He says that he walks around 20 km./day. He also plays a round of golf every day. He said that he came here two months ago with the express purpose of losing weight. Between playing golf every day, his 20 km. walk and the heat, he has lost 20 pounds already and is aiming for 10 more before he goes home in a month.

Hey Bubba!!

Thanks for the reply and the information, i too tried the Atkins diet and lost 10kg about 10years ago when i noticed my weight was gaining, i felt weak and tired from it but boy it was good eating bacon and eggs every morning

4 years ago when i lost 32KG in 6 months i changed the plan, this time i did eat carbs in the form of Cereal, Veg and Fruit, i elimated bread, potatoes, rice, and less pasta and eat plenty meat

But last time i really hit the gym hard, getting a heart rate up over 150 burns fat thats the secret small bursts to 170 also helps and the more water you drink the more you burn off, i also got to really like weight lifting and by the time i hit 100KG i was strong for my build, with 34inch pants but after relocating to issarn and living the good life with the wife and son diet and exercise went out the window

But this time when i hit my target weight i must maintain it, that is more imporatant than hitting the target and i must learn myself this

Thanks for all the help guys

Like everyone when they hit there mid thirties, the sport slows up and the weight suddenly increases. I tried the carb and the protein diets, lost weight but it came back on quickly. I have had most success having a normal breakfast, cereal, toast and fresh juice, lunch a pad thai or a lady pie salad roll, dinner being a salad only with a little chicken or smoked salmon, no eating between meals is a must, for me I'd come home from work and scoff a bag of dorittos or basically empty the cupboard, the hard part is getting your head around it to become a habit, now I only have the salad for dinner about three nights a week, luckily I walk about 4 k's a day at work, sweat my head off and drink heaps of water, I have been on this regime for 18 months and have lost 18kg very slowly, aiming for another 10kg to get me down to 90, I will keep this going now for ever. Good luck.

Cripes if I cut out all those carbs I think I'd need more than a daily pinter to stay half sane. I thought people got depressed if they cut their carbs too much.

I prefer a rowing machine over a running machine. Running might be too high impact for quite a few big fellas.

Was 85 kilo. Then I stopped the coke, and drank Soda instead.
Then I cut down from half bottle whisky, to one or two drinks a evening
Now i'm 89 kilo FFS!
