Beer Lao certainly cheaper than Tops by about 5 baht per bottle...

Champignon or button mushrooms much cheaper than Tops or Tesco Lotus.

Fresh Salmon about 30 % cheaper than Tesco Lotus or Tops.

Fresh scallops are 182/kg or approx 4 baht each.

Frozen scallops in Tesco are over 300 Baht for a pkt of 12.

well what i have learned after 16 years of stay , 7/eleven, tops, villa market ,foodland most expensive shops in thailand ,
and my times of missing falang food are longtime over...
so driving to a particular shop for a special need isn't there anymore...
bigc , lotus are about 20% more expensive , ngeesun is somewhere in the middle of these...only exceptions are promotions , (in any of them) , we always go makro and indeed the thalaad montong next to ,if the items do not look fresh ,what can happen in any shop , i simply do not buy them...
so we have makro as main number 1 , (opens at 6am) and sometimes bigc , as they are very near our home ,
lotus other side we never visit as i would not know any reason driving more far and pay more ?,
all this will be different according to your special preferences and needs ..enjoy your shopping ;)

Cant beat makro/big c.as for villa market old English furniture polish and that's it.my fruit n veg comes from nong wua so market so fresh n cheap.i have a large slow cooker and electric mincer and make my own ready made meals 13 at a time and carton them up in my freezer.at the moment I have spag bol, chilli con carne, beer stew, faggots, chicken balti, liver bacon and onions, pork chilli burgers,Lorne sausage, minced lamb stew for sheapards pie.all the carton meals are around 4-500 gram and cost between 40-60b..ive seen these home made meals selling in certain restaurants freezers for 160b,this is why I make up my own and I know they are really good because I do a few for friends and they tell me not to change my recipe.im just about to do a swap with a pal for some very rare Chinese curry powder and today Chinese chicken curry will be going on my list of meals.villa market is ok if you work off shore or own bitcoins.

from my experience most expensive to cheapest of any 1 item they all sell. Could be as much as 50 baht difference, but mostly around 1 to 15 baht between say 1 and 6. Of course some items are the same at all, like milk.
1. villa
2. tops
3. big c
4. tesco
5. makro
6. ngee soon

only reason I go to all is for items the others do not have. Weekly go to 6, 4, and 2 - bi-weekly 3 - Monthly 5 and rarely 1

One item I buy "Scotch" at stores that sell it - 739 to 699

Tops IMO has the best fresh imported beef , when its on special, Villa the same. All labelled and cryovaced from the abattoir. They will also cut it to your preferred size and then re cryovac it on the spot, meaning you get 6 months of fresh beef in your chiller. My pieces work out to be 250-300 Baht a piece on average.

Makro has some frozen imported beef, and no comparison. Might be cheaper

Lamb Shanks ( frozen ) seem to be the cheapest at Makro.

Talard Muang Tong ( Fresh Wholesale Market ) next to Makro , on the left has by far the best selection of fruits, vegetables , its where many of the street markets buy from also.

eg a Bag of Sweet Corn on the cob, is about 40 baht for 6 or 7 , freshly picked and delivered daily there

5 baht 10 baht 15 baht etc for a bunch of fresh vegetables, herbs , spices

Have you ever actually bought any meat products at makro that indeed did turn out to be iffy... or is it just the smell?

I think from memory the fresh salmon arrives on Mondays. Ask the staff to get them from their chillers, not the ones on display.

Is all the salmon everywhere farm raised.

I see at Tops they claim it's Norwegian but I have my doubts, it's simply too easy to cheat here.

Anyone know for sure?
