As I walked past what's left of Udon Supermarket today (near what was the old Top World), I was thinking about the many many ways Udon has improved over the years. I'll add metered taxis to the list!

I used a taxi from outside the Plaza to take me to the airport mid-July.
Meter on, automatically.
Cost 62 baht, very satisfactory service.
The non metered taxis (& even a rough riding tuk tuk) charge a 200 baht flat fee for the same journey.

On the way back in, yesterday, via Udon airport, I was disappointed to note that very little seems to have changed there in way of either parking or a legally organised taxi service!!

at the airport I reckon you'd have to ask a taxi driver dropping you off who prohibits them from queuing at the airport.... The "taxi kiosk" at the arrivals area seems to have the monopoly on taxis/vans leaving the airport...

Yesterday, Monday Aug 28th, at about 19:30, i took a taxi from Central to return home. The driver did not start the meter until i asked him to do so. He did not look too happy. I did not tipped. BTW has is the minimum charge ? Any surcharge after 8 PM ?
Thanks all.

What's wrong with the airport parking?

Not enough for the number of cars that seem to want to use it - or maybe not sensible enough restrictions/charges on those that do park there..
Parking on the 'green area' after the tarmacked car park seems a risky option this wet season too!!!
