MY house build to begin.

Hi, apologies but I'm new to this thread, did you build your own pool or get someone in?

The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

Vince

I had the house designed in 2 stages, the main house was built in 2 sections with 2 teams different teams. This allowed me to budget accordingly for 2 large quotes.
The main concrete piling and floor works were done by one team and 2nd the Pool and 2 underground buried rooms were built by another builder. He has the experience of larger projects which included pools in resorts etc.
So to answer your question, no I did not have a specific just pools guy.

Hope that answers your query

Thanks

Haven't posted on this for a while and STWW has reminded me with his posts on his build that I should keep going a bit.
Now the ground has dried out, yesterday I had the local mini excavator guy come around with my pipe layer, plus everything else, a small job handy man can do come and dig some drainage trenches and lay a heap of blue pipe for my storm water and overflow from an old sewer tank we use.
The excavator also cleared and leveled the ground all over our plot. Has been a lot of ruts from the cars and my neighbours buffalo's hooves tearing it up.
Full hard days work from 8 till 5. Excavator price has gone up recently to 3700 bht a day and the other guy laying the pipe with a young helper cost me 2400. I bought the pipe at Do home.

One word of warning to those out in the garden these days....I thought the many snakes we get had gone since the rice paddies are dry and the frogs hibernating.....wrong....when the dirt and rubble next to the fence were disturbed out popped 2 cobras. One biggen and a youngen. So be careful guys when moving stuff. They escaped to live another day.

Day 1 at my site last Saturday Barney. The mini excavator started at at 0830 and like you, I had him level the site first up pushing spoil down the front embankment to the soi to give trucks access as work progresses. Next we excavated ten 1m x 1m x1m holes which will have 250 mm thick reinforced pads out of which will come 400 x 400 pillars to anchor the retaining wall on three sides. Finally, he connected the holes with a 600 x 400 trench for the wall footings. I paid a premium on your price Barney at 5,000 baht for a full day; but the operator knew his stuff, and I was extremely happy with the result of Day 1. Hope it is an omen of things to come.

arjunudon,

Good to hear you have started. Don't worry about what the excavator cost you this time. It will depend on the size of the machine and other costs he has to incur.
Just stay on top of them and do not be afraid to ask all your subcontractors to lower the price. Even when you need the excavator back tell him you have had other prices. My girl was on the job daily and very strong in this respect as I was a way working most of the time.
Start a thread with photos, it is of interest to some to see things progress.
Goodluck

I was sitting around thinking what Santa would bring me this year and thought I should post my roof drainage photos.

I do not have any underground drainage from the guttering until it reaches the 10,000ltr underground storage tank. Have piped it all through the down pipes and into blue plumbing pipe from the house to the one location at the rear to enter the buried tank.
Have 2 valves so far, one to allow water to flow off the property and then another to allow flow into the tank. This allows water on an initial down pour to remove any debris, leaves etc, before turning the valve's to fill the tank. Or if tank is full it just flows off site.
I just painted the blue pipe the same colour as my concrete colour. The pipe remaining blue is where the full deck will eventually surround the pool at the same level as the house.

The drainage pipes have been tested with some very heavy rain and passed the flow rate test. Surpised howfast that 10,000 ltr tank filled up. It will supplement the 4 x 2000 ltr village water system.
I just painted the blue pipe the same colour as my concrete colour. The pipe remaining blue is where the full deck will eventually surround the pool at the same level as the house.

Enjoy your Christmas guys and gals. Be safe.

Thanks for that idea Barney.
I might run those two double drains down into the ground before I pave that pool area.

Things are looking up once again in the construction industry for employment. Not in the Oil and gas just yet but in the mining process plants. Scored a job after the last lazy 6 months, practicing for retirement, so spending money again on the house.

Ceiling fans are installed along with the tiling of the kitchen walls started, the kitchen units are being built now and will be completed and installed in about a month.
The fans that I wanted are the Mr Ken brand.

They can only fit one way.
This brand are a very high efficiency motor and fan with lots of down force. 6 speed remote. And expensive. :(

The dining room area has 2 of one type.
When off the blades are folded up like a flower and when on they open up.
There is another timber fan outside our bedroom above the deck area where I can relax with a chang when on life saving duties.

The steel for the deck and all handrails has also arrived and being spray painted today, ready to cut and weld.

My girl is moving ahead in her capacity as resident Project Manager and has now got the 2 team installing the front deck handrails and stairs.
Plus the tiling of the front entrance wall.
Raised decking, stairs and rails for pool will be next.
The rail and stair blokes are welding in situ, went for round pipe cause I'm different. :-"

These guys are doing a great job of fabricating onsite, welding, grinding and painting as they go in place.

Got some paint on now and the stairs to install next. Bought the thick shera stair treads for the steps.
Paint them later.

The tiler did a good job on the front house stone wall.
