Wow you go big. a dog house to live in... looks like some families dwellings I saw in Thailand.. or much better. . Are guard dogs a must in an around UT?
How were the prefab posts set in the ground? did I miss that page? Why not use metal posts? That seems like a large umbrella on just 8 posts?

It looks like fixed angle solar panel angle in Thailand is about 13 degrees. I love the way that dog looks so alert..

Hi Randall,

It is a big undercover area ( 9mtr x 20 mtr) and fortunately not just for dogs. Having lived in S.E Asia for 16 years both in Vietnam and Thailand I have come to understand that weather protection for heavy rain and the at time intense heat is a must, see maaka's comments on his house build thread on how his life has improved by adding shade to his house.
Any way steel poles are OK but do need more painting and maintenance, the wife has enough to do with out adding painting to her house maintenance  the precast posts are about 3 meters long with a wider flat footing at the base , they come in other lengths, and are set in excavated holes. Some people just dig them in and bury, which is OK, but I have my contractor dig the hole and put a normal leveling blinding in the base then place the posts and fill with concrete. Very stable for just covered areas. They have small steel rods protruding at the top which he welds on to the roof structure. All the roof steel is fabricated and welded in situ. Though the black steel is pre painted with a good quality corrosion proof paint and a 2nd coat when built, then place the roof sheets.
Later when complete I will post what else is under the roof. Namely 4 x 2000 ltr town water tanks and 2 pumps and 2 filters. I did not concrete all the area because I have a buried 10,000 ltr tank under there and I left it uncovered. Probably pavers later. Later the remaining area will be used as storage for the wifes garden toys that I generously buy each mothers day and birthday, like the lawn mower, whipper snipper, machetes, bush saws, hoes, shovels, etc etc. She is into herbal gardening and that will fill a lot of the area.
My dogs are part of the family and I want them to be comfortable. 2 will be very big dogs (one is now 60kg and the other female maybe 45 or 50 when fully grown) and need to be securely locked away in a big area when new visitors turn up. The gate is extra strong. Their very own ceiling fan goes in soon.
Guard dogs are not a must in Thailand but I am away a bit and they add to the security aspect. Plus they are a great loyal family pets.

I'm reading the others posters comments on solar and will make a decision on this in the future. That's a hobby project.

Good choice using concrete posts, I don't see why anyone would use steel as they will eventually rust at ground level...

Agree fatbob,

The concrete posts have plenty of load bearing capacity.

I would only use steel if the aesthetics and design called for it. But they would have to be mounted proud if the ground level on small pedestals.

Thanks ajarnudon :D

Correct I had forgotten that one, but have a number or weather proof outlets out back in the dog house for her, yet to be purchased, 36V battery chainsaw and charger. I hope to buy her a stihl model. I've heard they are the best brand in the world. :-" She seems to like orange and white in the flavor of Udon colours. Plus a cupboard for the safety gear.

Had the land office survey team out Tuesday. Had to wait the regular 6 months if not wanting to pay extra.
Cost was 3500 thb for a full survey of our 4 rai land.

1 reason for the survey was that the water resource mob over the back fence had dug a large trench and installed a concrete culvert. They also built a fence which is 8 meters from my land with the culvert is between my land and his fence
Anyway they installed the culvert at the wrong level, why am I not surprised, actually about a meter too low. In the mean time like many things Thai they did not finish the job and over a long time the land has eroded. We approached the big boss at the irrigation office whose responsibility it falls under and he advised that he will not fill it in until we can show him he marker pegs.
In my nicest Thai smile and with gritted teeth I explained the marker pegs are gone because of his excavation and subsequent erosion. So I cannot show him the pegs.
So as with many ar,ewipe Thai officials he did not want to grasp my logic and he dismissed me and said get the survey done at my own cost and he will fill my land back. There was no need for me to argue as the subject was closed.
I am also not holding my breath for him to honuor his commitment, but stranger thing have occurred.
We have toyed with the idea for a number of years about subdividing our 4 rai and through our small connection at the land office we have been able to get the additional pegs done if we ever split the land.
At least we have a clear indication of our boundaries now as other neighbours who are elderly are trying to parcel up their family land to sell or pass land onto their children. Now prepared for any conflict.
GF said they did a good job and made it all clear, other will know and have experienced that over the years some boundary pegs seem to move in a mysterious manner usually for the neighbours benefit. Or just disappear.
But the chanote always has the correct boundary locations.
We will install posts now adjacent to the pegs.

barney , you can buy the hollow round concrete posts/pipe (1?), cut them the height you want, fill them with concrete and lock the marker post on top inside , as indeed the small markers seem to disappear/crumble quickly some times ;)

Since it may be another slow day in UT, well it is here at work so here's my post for water

My man of all trades has turned up with his plumbing expert and commenced stage 1 of the water pump and filters scope.
2nd stage will be later when we install the other pump and filter being used at the existing old house.
New water meter done on the fence line, piping to the tanks done and town water flowing, tank pipes now done to the filter and pump. done and the pump and filters commissioned. Backwash shown tested.
Now to connect to the house with the green pipe.

3 Air conditioning units arrived today for installation.
We changed our mind on my return to Udon and went from Mitsubishi and went to Hitachi.
Got a price form 2 shops and then allowed the guy who installed the pipes in the wall to give us his best.
The new Hitachi inverter model with extra filters and a scanner, gimmicks I imagine but we shall see. Sleep mode, silent mode etc etc.
2 x 12,000 Btu and 1 x 18,000 Btu.
Total was 71,000 bht for the 3. Less the near 10,000 for installation of the pipe and cable loom already installed.
So he gets 61,000 including install today. Hence letting him supply the units as we didn't need any extra pipe supplied with units from shops.
The standard pipe length when buying from the shop is 4 mtrs. Ours was pre installed at just over 5 mtrs as the outside units are under the house.
All good and a very good job done. The boss came to get it all started and the 4 lads finished it and then gave us the demo to show all OK.
He is a cross the ring road from Tesco near the Nong Khai turn off.
They mounted the controllers on the wall and also mounted the ceiling fan controller adjacent.
I asked him again about different pipes etc for different brands and he said not the case. We went form Diakin to Mitsubishi to Hitachi for a final choice. No problems. We have 2 older AC's to bring over from the old house later and they are Mitsubishi. The pipes are in and waiting for that time.

Little by little its moving forward.
Have the doors delivered this week. 10 all up.
The GF has called in the fitters who are in the process to line them up, cut the handles and locks and notch the hinges. The doors solid timber and are very heavy and will have 4 hinges on each. Ventilation slats fitted to the bottom of the wet rooms and a undercoat primer used.
Spraying of the sealant has commenced. Lucky I built that 20mtr x 9mtr undercover area as it is now a door assembly factory. 4 coats of sealant to eventually bring out the wood grain.

The wet weather has delayed some contractors lately including the door man, but the blind men arrived and started work.
Had to go and get the correct screws as they weren't told it was a steel frame house as the frame is directly around the window. Any way all worked out now. The steel frame has provided a very strong attachment.
We have chosen a mixture of a pull down blind and the hanging strip type as in the photos. The material for these blind styles allow you to look outside but you cannot look in.
To be fitted later, the kitchen will have a mahogany timber slat venetian blind style. Have to wait 30 days for these to be fabricated along with the different colour for the hanging blinds on the 4 sliding doors around the pool deck.

GF is very pleased with the choice we made on my last visit and likes the installation so far.
Total cost for all window and door blinds with fitting is 45,000 bht

Looks like a slow day again on UM so you can watch my concrete dry. :D
GF has decided to extend the apron around the house and dog shelter.

Next project for her is the front fence and electric gate system. Haven't looked in town or BKK yet for a supplier of the auto gate. Do the gate motors have the battery backup in case of power failure, auto close timer when gate may have been forgotten to be closed, electric eye for auto open on exit? etc etc. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Made a reasonably big stuff up ages ago on the tiles for the pool surround so will replace them as another project for her. They are a bit slippery and will replace with a more non slip tile along with similar tiles for the stair landings.

Any way here's the drying concrete.
Oh I think it was 30,000 for concrete and 10,000 for the guys.

And the dogs swimming in the dam.

Have a happy day.
