New Immigration Fee?

Post by downunder » August 27, 2015, 3:25 am

I simply was following the guy ahead of me, I truly was not aware that it was free. I was never informed, not even by the Immigration Officer who handled my application. I now realize that my stupidity in not knowing the correct procedure was adding to the coffers of the department in a large donation toward their so called Tea Money, The shifty Pricks

New Immigration Fee?

Of course , Some Posters here paid tea money, knowing the service is free , or didn't enquire of the fee is genuine.

There are many who have paid , but probably not that many who have paid like DU.

So my spin on this, is not the activity, but just how much was paid.

For this second 12 months duration I payed the same money for the ''O''VISA. On renewing my first extension I forgot to pay but thought that was a win for me, however the second extension the man put forward a box to which I put the 2000 baht in.
Today, I was surprised to learn that when I went to Pay the young Lady who processed my extension told me If I paid on time the 1900 DID NOT HAVE TO BE PAID.
QUESTION. is this something new or have I been in the dark all this time/DU
Well at least one gal is honest.

3. IF you happen to leave once a year, or more, an exit / entry stamp is needed so not to violate your visa or extension, not sure of technical reason, besides, we get to charge you again. One time stamp is 1000 baht, and needs to be done ahead of departure (I think), not at border or airport. If knowing you may be leaving more than once a year, a multi exit / entry stamp is 1900 baht, so quite the bargain, if leaving more than twice.

I
just a note, ( not at border or airport) when i flew out of swampy last year , they were doing re-entry visa's at the airport ,but i agree safer to get re-entry visa before leaving date, just in case someone throws a sickie at the airport and office isn't manned :-k

New Immigration Fee?

Post by JR » September 29, 2015, 10:26 am

Went to immigration for my yearly extension based on retirement. Wanted to use the combined alternative as my pension this year is just a whiff below 65 pr month. So added a bank statement with enough on an account.
A male office with glasses, black rims, seated on no. 4 took my papers. Then he started bla bla I had moved money during the last three months! I moved some from one account to another but it was always well over 800. Besides using the combined method, seasoning does not apply.
That the "offficer", I think he may in charge!, does not know! He kept yaking about the money had not been in the account for three months. No, and it does not have to be! Blank face.
Then he said I have to go to Bangkok! Where in Bangkok and why should I do that? No answer!
Eventually we moved to another officer who checked and stamped everything.
BUT they apply the same idiosyncracy as with marriage, that you have to wait a month or so for "approval". Or pay 1000 and get it immediately!
I wonder, when someone wants to apply for work at immigration, is there a requirement that he or she shall not have an iq over 70?

IQ is not a factor. The primary qualification is how much you are willing to pay to get the job. Pretty much standard practice for just about any government/school position here is LOS. I certainly hope you didn't pay them the extra 1,000THB.

Oh I guess the one named Peter got results. Just left Udon Immigrations and was never handled so quickly before so I would guess that the squeaky wheel did get some results.

Same here. Went in yesterday for my visa extension and the service was quick. Still doing the "come back in 30 days" thing and got the normal "have no change" routine. (I should know better and bring the exact change.) He said he'll give it to me next time. (yeah right)

On another thread a rumor was mentioned that US citizens may be required to provide proof of income beyond the embassy letter. I brought proof of income to the US embassy when getting my income letter from them, they didn't want to see it. They just want a sworn verbal statement. Also brought my proof of income to the IO, they didn't want to see it, embassy letter is all they wanted.

Affidavit from the US embassy still works like a charm. 8)

Yes Jello, it is Nong Khai Immigration that are requiring people to sign a declaration that for their next renewal they will provide evidence that the money is physically coming into the country.
However, I understand it, they do not make retirees return in 30 days..

I guess you just pick the town that has a policy to suit your particular needs & maybe move often... :D

For anyone going to immigration who doesn,t have a yellow book and needs a letter to show at AEK to renew both bike and car licence, only one letter is needed, immigration will insist you need 2 and charge you for 2,just ask for one or the other.

The wife and I went in to renew ours this last Wednesday (23 Dec).. Done by the older male officer. We arrived around 10AM, grabbed a queue card and were called to the desk within a minute. It took a bit longer than normal since he was training two interns in how to process the paperwork.. We had proper copies of everything; passport face page, original O-A Visa page, Arrival Card, Yellow book, map to house, lacking only the latest arrival stamp which they copied right away.. I gave exact change for the two extension applications (1900 baht apiece) and the officer told us to come back in about 2-3 weeks to get our Visa Extensions stamped.. At that time we'll apply for our Multiple re-entry permits.. The whole process took about 50 minutes.

BTW, he said if we wanted "expedited same day service" it would cost 1500 baht per applicant..

It is interesting to note the last comment on the previous post, as if they can expedite for 1500 Baht then the wait is just a ploy to attempt to make the unsuspecting foreigner part with money for a service that in fact takes no more than a certain officers time in countersigning the paperwork and instructing the clerk to put on the stamp. I doubt if the passports ever leave the office.
Another way of conning money which in my book is blatant corruption , should that be said to me I will report it trust me.

Very similar experience on the 25th, probably the same officer?

This excerpt is from the Untied States Service for obtaining a Passport in a rush. $60 additional cost
"You can request expedited service by mail or apply in person. Generally, you will receive your passport in three weeks, or sooner, if you can show an urgent need. Expedited service will cost an additional $60, plus any delivery costs."

This excerpt is for obtaining a UK passport in a rush situation
"Cost

You’ll have to pay a non-refundable fee of £95 or the equivalent in local currency."

So what I can gather is that ALL Governments will put their hands into your pocket if you require a document in rush circumstances and not just the Thai Government Is this saying ALL Governments are "conning money which in my book is blatant corruption , should that be said to me I will report it trust me. Hope this helps

I cannot comment on Udon Immigration (other than to say that we are blessed to have such an efficient and friendly office; aren't we lucky we don't have to go to the next province anymore?), but in the United States, it seems that the fee to expedite passport renewal is offered so that those who need an expedited process can get it, but those who do not really need it will not apply because of the extra fee.
