Socks, I Took my U.K Visitors to The Crocodile Show Last Year & They were quite happy with it....The Younger " Socksy " Might be a little scared though....Although If shes got " Glasgow Blood " She'll probably want to get in the cages & ' Fight Them "

And Yes The Aquarium is well worth a Visit...Turn left of Highway 2 at the signs for The Friendship Bridge & You'll see Signs for Khon Kaen University on your left about 1 km after turning off the highway....Easy You cannot miss it...

Thanks 747. Well do the Aquarium first and town for lunch and see how the time goes before contemplating the Crocodile place. If I promise her a new handbag and shoes she'll take on the challenge of a bundle with a Croc.

According to Trip Advisor the most popular attraction in Nong Khai is Sala Kaew Ku,a park with many amazing statues about 3km out of town on the Phon Phisai road.
I've been there myself and its worth spending a bit of time having a wander around....park entrance is only 20 baht.

Cant think of anything else that has not already been mentioned.....Aquarium,Tha Sadet market, stroll along the promenade, eat at the Vietnamese restaurant overlooking the river etc.....one thing that disappoints me about Nong Khai is the lack of a place that does decent farang food.Given its location on the Mekhong it could be a bit of a money spinner with good western food and ice cool beers !
Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

Take some one who speaks thai as the statues have explanations of Buddha's travels and can be quite educational if that's what you want.

And at the end of the tour you can have one of these, really nice.

Thanks Barney - junior is my interpreter. Speaks English, Thai, Issan an understands 'Jockanese'. Don't know where her intelligence comes from - not me, and a million percent sure not from the estranged.

I really enjoy Sala Kaew Ku. It makes Scottish football seem really unimportant?

Zid,
Just before the entrance to the 'riverside market' (river on your left), there is a filter road, obviously on the right hand side! Approximately 60 metres into that road, on the left, there is a small farang restaurant, apparently under German ownership, and the favourite haunt/meeting place for local German ex-pats. It is somewhat cramped for space, so seating is usually at a premium from around 7pm, when the aforesaid regulars tend to arrive. Discovered it about a month ago, and have subsequently enjoyed three reasonably priced, nicely cooked and presented meals. Best farang food in Nongkhai, since 'Beer Bar Belly Belly', (Peter), closed, a couple or so years ago. Has made a pleasant alternative to eating at "Dee Dees" (Thai translation Good Food Restaurant), now, and for very many years, our all time favourite Thai Restaurant.
Incidentally, another recent pleasing discovery, of mine, is the "Park & Pool Resort. Opened approximately 9 months ago, set in still developing tropical gardens, it has spacious grounds, a variety of well spaced, reasonable well appointed bungalows, and a two storey block of double/twin room ensuite rooms, (my personally preferred choice), incorporating also several suites. Rooms, inclusive of a very reasonable Thai/European breakfast, are Bt.900; Bungalows range from Bt.1200/1400, and the Suites, I know not! A full size pool, with adjoining' Childs' section, sparkling clean, completes the facilities. Restaurant, currently only a limited menu, closes at 10.00pm. Resort is situated down the side road, to the right of, and immediately adjoining the Nongkhai Resort, which is immediately opposite the Nongkhai Railway Station. The Resort is well sign posted, and I recommend you give it a try.
A heads up. Nongkhai Resort, previously my Nongkhai favourite, has chosen to fill in the beautiful pond, with fountain, previously situated opposite the two storey block of rooms. It is reported the building of another block of rooms is about to be commenced. So, if true, probably not the best choice at which to stay, if you prefer peace & quiet!

Had a good trip to the Aquarium yesterday with the ankle biter and it was well worth it. =D> Dual pricing but had my Thai DL with me so instead of the 100 baht foreigner entrance fee, me and junior got in for 80 baht in total. Thanks for everyone's recommendation's. Due to time constraint's the other places previously mentioned will have to wait till next time. I'm trying to negotiate a deal to get the pay per view fight between junior 'Socksy' and the meanest croc at the farm. And by the way it was very hot as well 747.
