You are right. I fear we will see some flying vehicles. Could be real nasty.

Non Wau So as a province is bigger than Udon in size and population, although it's difficult to get actual figures of resident farang it is estimated by the issue of yellow books etc that there are as many here as in Udon , note I said resident .These mainly consist of Swedes and Germans but there is a smattering of most nationalities as well .On the whole these are married guys on moderate income who whilst still liking a drink and socialising with others, prefer to do so without spending too much, so they tend to gather at selected homes where they drink from cans bought from the local supermarket. I guess the ones you saw were at the table outside the 7-11, over the road there is a farang run pizza place selling quite nice ones at 100bht, he is doing well apparently. I suppose the thought process is , why pay the higher prices charged in town when you can enjoy your mates chat and eat and drink just round the corner , after all a small Leo is less than 30bht, why pay twice as much in town?
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

You're not kidding! That has to be the most dangerous thing I've seen to date, a car hitting that at 60kmph could be caterpulted a long way up, I wouldn't want to be in the car alongside them!
The forest was shrinking daily but the trees kept voting for the axe as its handle was made of wood and they thought it was one of them.

It will launch a car the same as in the James Bond film car chase where roger does a twisted flip over the river...also noticed no drain hole under concrete central barrier.so the rain will sit in the road and we will see lots of aqua planing going on.

They make a TV program a few years ago about farrang in Nongwuasoh. In amphur have the highest rate of farrang married to thai women...per capita!

Yes I'm one of the farang who drink and socialise on the farang table as it's known.we don't drink there because it's cheap,we gather in the afternoon and send the wifeys of to market with pocket money and share our thoughts on the day.whats needed is a air con bar but there's not quite enough of us to warrant it.plenty of us but a lot of the farangs don't come to drink, just shop.toms Greek restaurant is bang on and cheap.in fact the village is very cheap and I only need makro for a few items as we have it all here.as for Tesco, expensive and not really a Tesco.theres a lot going for nong wua so,good hospital and clinic, friendly people, good few restaurants around.you can even buy a new pcx cheaper here than in the city.and the best one is there's only one set of traffic lights.oh and the coppers are ok,I had two fines and went to the station to pay and he let me off one of them.very, very nice man.it takes me 20 minutes to city and I dread every set of lights and the traffic and pollution.also the place seems to be that bit hotter.im retired and can't see the point of living in the city and paying over the top prices, especially for property.

not only have they carefully painted the warning stripes on the take off ramp, they have sloped the central reservation to allow the water to come flooding down onto both lanes =D> =D> =D> and the lack of drains should make a really nice white water rafting attraction in the rainy season, well done =D> =D> =D>another well though out piece of thai construction,i think they only painted the stripes on it because they had some left over paint and didn,t know what to do with it

Totally agree, cant wait to be behind an empty truck and trailer with no tyre tread blasting down those hills and aqua planing side ways.weve had a few smashes and the odd fatality along that stretch but this will cause proper carnage.i wonder if the engineer who designed this system worked for a swimming pool company before his current job.

I have just driven that road a dozen times over the last week and despite all the negativity, i think it is a massive improvement. Those trouble areas with the stripes are easy to see from distance and at night.
Best things.
No motorbikes and took tooks driving up the wrong side of the road looking for an option to duck across the traffic.
No speeding vehicles coming towards me in my lane while they are overtaking.
No option to take a quick right hand turn from the left lane.
Cutouts in the dividing wall for pedestrians to cross but they must step up in the wall making them easy to see and does not give motorbikes the option of going through there.
New line marking started yesterday.

Even though it inconveniences me by forcing me to go a couple of ks out of the way to get home, i give the road a big thumbs up and i will feel heaps better when my wife is driving on it

You cannot be serious, this is a serious accident black spot in the making.the complete idiot who designed this should be strapped to one of those lighting columns waiting to be hit.

Yes I agree with what your saying,we farang can use this road and it is safer for us but Thais are another story.speeding tail gaters in the outside lane are going to get caught out.the first part of the central barrier from udon has no weep holes at the bottom, then some half way through the job has decided are needed or forgot in the first place.also the holes are way too small and blocking up with debris as I write.we can only wait and see when it's all complete and people can go full blast on soi Monaco as I shall name it.

I went out to the 'hidden lake' near Nong O the last day of Songkran and noted these new traffic hazards on 210. I think they seriously need to repaint the lane lines since they appear to have (mostly) widened the hard shoulder where the central reservation has been widened but the existing lane markers exists, making for the rapidly narrowing of the 'fast lane'.

Regarding the drinking and driving habits of the Nong Wua So'ans, We drove a fair ways down 2315 and there was pretty much a police check point with stop signs in the middle of the road and roadside tents every 2 km or so, a lot more numerous than any other roads i have driven on.

I was driving in this area about 10 days ago and the new road layout is very dangerous.
Half the outside lane just disappears.Driving at night or at speed,I dread to think what the consequences could be.....no black and white paint will change that.

Just when I thought our chance had passed, you go and save the best for last.

I mentioned that before but in hindsight, since when have the local drivers paid much attention to white lining?

In a lot of countries, they put up signs warning of any "New road layout ahead." Do you think that would work in LOS? Maybe they already do it here (I don't read Thai) so maybe just another unavoidable aspect of the locals 'me first' driving attitude coupled with their total lack of spacial awareness... and lack of activity of any sort by what passes for the Highway Police.

To most Thai all the painting, markings on the roads are just to brighten up what would be a boring black road.they haven't grasped the colour of traffic lights yet let alone road markings.one step at a time but they'll get there..one day.
