Yes i do not think premeditated was ever really discussed to much but having an argument then losing your temper and killing someone is what ? Negligent homicide ? I am sure there are a lot of people convicted of murder after killing someone a moment of rage as in a bar fight finding you wife with another man or road rage etc.
I think after listening to the evidence about the shouts and later screams of his girlfriend which were heard by a few neighbours who were then discredited by the defence saying they were pistorius`s screams and the fact he shot 4 times is pretty obvious if not beyond reasonable doubt that he had an argument , she run to the bathroom to get away from him and he shot her 4 times through the door. I same as the witnesses would know a woman screaming for her life from pistorius screaming because he shot her.
Not understand in s africa why there is only 1 judge. I thought most countries who do not have a jury have at least 3 judges same as military court martial ?

I watched the judge delivering the verdict (as far as it went on the first day) and it was a clinical analysis of the evidence presented in the case which separated the facts from much of the innuendo, supposition and theories that were offered by both the prosecution and defence.

The judgment (so far) is of a considerably higher standard than I was expecting and, if it continues in this vein, will give cause for some older and more developed legal systems to pause for thought

What a load of drivel the last 30 mins . All political done to not upset people by letting him get away scot free but not punish him to much . Nothing to do with justice and the absolutely ridiculous remark she made saying that when pistorius fired 4 shots through the door into a tiny room knowing there was somebody behing he could not have foreseen he may kill someone !!! Does she think we are all idiots , we all know if we fired 1 shot we may kill somebody but not this poor rich boy who had lots of tears he could not have any idea when he fired 4 shots into that small room he may hurt someone . The foolish young defendant and his family must be planning a quiet celebration. Nothing too over the top.

Yet according to his defence lawyer "Poor Oscar" is the victim here.......he's lost everything.....his girlfriend and,most importantly,his sponsors ! :-&
If he does get community service hopefully it will be in West Africa treating ebola patients and not being allowed to wear protective clothing !

After all he only wasted one victim and she died quickly. The poor fellow has already had to sell his house to pay for his lawyers.

I understand he's already in training for the next Olympics. There will be more than a couple of corporates looking to support him.

This IS the guy that would NOT ACCEPT the decision that he was disabled as an athlete. He said he could do anything as well as any able bodied man , but then, that was when it suited him.

Simpson did beat the murder rap but he is doing time (unrelated to the murder case). Plus, there are civil judgments in favor of the victim's families amounting to more than $33 million dollars, of which he has paid little. He has been granted parole but must serve another 3 years or so before he can be released. Justice? Doubtful, but at least he's paying some of his debt owed to society.

I suspect Pistorius may yet see "civil type" charges brought against him that could cause distress. It will be a while before this plays out completely.

I believe that the girlfriends parents are strapped for cash, so civil charges might be an issue. Especially as he has already claimed that he is broke so any lawyer might be reluctant to take on a case where even if won the money due would probably not be forthcoming.

It is difficult to see how justice is going to be served the way things stand at the moment.
Equally the law is the law, for all its' faults & large sums of cash buy the best defence it would seem anywhere in the world.. One law for the rich, one for the poor is a cliche but would appear to be true none the less.

And 3 year suspended for gun crime.

5 year sentence but can be a minimum 8 months in prison on good behaviour then the rest on correctional supervision as per twitter postings on bbc website.

I heard 10 months and then House arrest the rest of the term!

I read the headline saying 5 years and thought that's outside the lower range of possible sentences Justice GT93 would have dished out. Then I read on and see Pistorius got a wet bus ticket. At least his name has joined the likes of OJ in infamy.

I wasn't impressed with the South African justice system. Far too many resources spent on what was really a factually simple case. Over there they probably take 10 plus years to put away white collar criminals.

Oscar Pistorius' lawyers say they have still to decide wether or not to appeal against the sentence but have denied reports in the media that they have asked the Koh Tao police to come over and investigate the prosecutions evidence !

10 months served in jail for killing your girlfriend in cold blood.....its disgraceful....I suppose,at least,they got the right man !
