sorry pushed the wrong button, the bulk of the Traffic is on the Ring Road, would it not have been been suited for the majority to be cleard instead of banking where it could have been cleared much quicker if it was faced North to South. What is your opinion
Overpass/tunnel Udon Ringroad Nongkai Hwy
When it was built, there wasn't that much traffic on the ring road in that area. But in the past 2 years, traffic, especially truck traffic, has increased substantially on the ring road, especially the Loei-Nongkai Hwy side, and then even more on the Nongkai to Sakhon Nakhon side.
And with nearly every sq. meter of space on the ring road being built up, and subdivisions going in all over, it can only get busier.
I've said it before, I'll say it again........people are betting on the come with all the building going on. Bangkok folks may be buying.....but what's driving it all? There's no new industry/tourism draw........just betting on a new high speed railroad and all that might bring with it......but that's proabably many years out....if ever. I'd fold.

I would say a tunnel just won't work, hope they build it better then the Big C overpass. with it's rain puddles. A real surprise for this not ready for it.

There will be a lot of industry coming to udon and loei as THEY DO NOT FLOOD like bangkok.

I agree. Industry relocating to Udon have the border with Laos as the gateway to China overland and a new rail system to ship goods into BKK, all over the country, 3 ports (BKK, Laem Chabang, and Rayong), and Malaysia. Not to mention access to even cheaper Laotian labor! To blazes with the increase in the minimum wage. What's not to love about relocating to Udon?mykthemin wrote:There will be a lot of industry coming to udon and loei as THEY DO NOT FLOOD like bangkok.
Enjoy this site much more by adding idiots to your ignore list (Friends & Foes tab).

bobbi udn posted on skyscraper city......a photo of the proposed under/over pass at the ring road/Nongkai Hwy. Along with a budget that looks to start next year. Unfortunately, I'm unable to tell from the post exactly when (if) it will start.
Just a heads up for anyone who frequents that area.....to start thinking about looking for alternatives.

Should be good for businesses in Nong Samrong, as there will probably be thousands of extra cars/trucks using that road as a "Rat Run" to avoid the junction during the 5 to 10 years it will take to build
Should make for some fun with the double/treble parking next to the market :-"

Those who remember the Khon Kaen tunnel and the traffic delays !!!
Police have already conducted a visual on where to conduct their roadside checks, wont even need to use cones to slow the traffic down,

when KK was building the underpass I always made sure I took the west side Ring Road.. Probably 5km longer but at least 20 minutes shorter in time and far less stress.. For Udon, coming from the east side heading to Nong Khai will be difficult at best during the construction.. Not many alternatives other than going through downtown, around the east side of Nong Prajak and through the Nong Samrong area and link back up to the highway... I sure wish they had the outer ring road done...

I was looking around Google Maps to perhaps find a rural road that would bypass the NongKhai/Udon intersection to the east or northeast.. There's nothing there much since that area is full of ponds and creeks.. I did however scan across what appears to be about a 2500 foot airstrip.. Anybody know anything about it? https://www.google.co.th/maps/@17.47176 ... a=!3m1!1e3

Brain cells what they are, I'm not positive....but believe I posted about a drag strip somewhere in that location.......some time ago.FrazeeDK wrote:I was looking around Google Maps to perhaps find a rural road that would bypass the NongKhai/Udon intersection to the east or northeast.. Whatever they do and how they do it, they WILL have to have contingency plans as the amount of traffic from Laos and Nong Khai has almost trebled and we are not talking about cars but lorries with trailers or large artics .If you use that junction at various times it is the right trun from the ring road to Nong Khai that causes the tail-back .
There is enough land there to put in decent junctions and presumably one bridge or underpass, however following on from the Big C overpass, they do not use logical thought in construction and vehicle movement. Just stop or squeeze everyone into one lane and work unimpeded at a pace a snail would be proud of.
The only way I can think of is via Ban Dung, but that is a very long detour and I doubt if they have even thought of one, just hoping for luck and less traffic . There are other local shortcuts I am sure , but not suitable for anything bigger than a Nissan March size.
Life will be interesting and I expect the Tesco's at that junction will suffer from less customers.

If you use the intersection at the old Tesco/ringroad/Nongkai Hwy on a regular basis, there's still time to pack up and move elsewhere.......the construction is due to begin in Oct and last for 3 years and cost a cool 1,350,000,000 Baht.
I'm impressed........I thought immigration used a lot of stamps when they transferred info to a new passport! kaching

Bring It ON! This is a favorite Police check point also, sure they have many other locations in mind to collect a few bahts from unsuspecting motorists.

Looks like the time is approaching to do what I did in UK ........... leave the car in the garage and use public transport to go everywhere oh s*** there isn't any public transport in Udon is there :-& :-&
Overpass/tunnel Udon Ringroad Nongkai Hwy
sure there is and plenty too... Its just a bit convoluted and slow as you move from the slow busses to songtaew's to tuk-tuk... The downside for me is the 1.5km walk to the main road to get on public transport....
