Whatever they do and how they do it, they WILL have to have contingency plans as the amount of traffic from Laos and Nong Khai has almost trebled and we are not talking about cars but lorries with trailers or large artics .If you use that junction at various times it is the right trun from the ring road to Nong Khai that causes the tail-back .
There is enough land there to put in decent junctions and presumably one bridge or underpass, however following on from the Big C overpass, they do not use logical thought in construction and vehicle movement. Just stop or squeeze everyone into one lane and work unimpeded at a pace a snail would be proud of.
The only way I can think of is via Ban Dung, but that is a very long detour and I doubt if they have even thought of one, just hoping for luck and less traffic . There are other local shortcuts I am sure , but not suitable for anything bigger than a Nissan March size.
Life will be interesting and I expect the Tesco's at that junction will suffer from less customers.

If you use the intersection at the old Tesco/ringroad/Nongkai Hwy on a regular basis, there's still time to pack up and move elsewhere.......the construction is due to begin in Oct and last for 3 years and cost a cool 1,350,000,000 Baht.
I'm impressed........I thought immigration used a lot of stamps when they transferred info to a new passport! kaching

Bring It ON! This is a favorite Police check point also, sure they have many other locations in mind to collect a few bahts from unsuspecting motorists.

Looks like the time is approaching to do what I did in UK ........... leave the car in the garage and use public transport to go everywhere oh s*** there isn't any public transport in Udon is there :-& :-&
Overpass/tunnel Udon Ringroad Nongkai Hwy
sure there is and plenty too... Its just a bit convoluted and slow as you move from the slow busses to songtaew's to tuk-tuk... The downside for me is the 1.5km walk to the main road to get on public transport....

Yeah right ..... WALKED from Ban Don Wai Road (off NK Highway) to Udon Town Centre (7k give or take) a couple of weeks back, got passed by ONE tuk tuk just the other side of Udon Christian Fellowship School (he wanted B150 from there to near Bangkok Hospital ) .... needless to say I carried on walking.
PS didn't you know Frazee ........ songtaews and slow buses are scared of the dark so only mad dogs and englishmen get to see them

If they intend to do both projects at the same time, one would assume thjat they will offer alternative routed, like through Nong samrung etc, It will be a considerable nightmare for many with the Ring road going in the opposite direction past Big C becoming more crowded I think towards NBL Road.
The only upside I forsee is that the Tescos, Big C and Nadee on the NBL road will gain far more customers , however other Thai businesses will suffer I am sure.

Any idea if it went out for tender to reputable companies either in Thailand or international?
3 years...they gotta be joking. Must be allowing additional time for funds to run out and refinancing.
With the complete lack of Thai logic and any thought for traffic control on even the smallest of road projects, one can foresee a complete cluster f,,k for delays.

Barney I hear that the working gang who place all the cones are available early October so will begin on time =D>
The gang that are scheduled to dig the road up will be available shortly after they finish their job in Roi et ( sometime mid December). The problem area seem to be the overpass building team who have a window between 25th and 29th July 2017 which will be used if arrangements (nudge nudge wink wink) can be sorted :-"

If you saw what happened with the Big C overpass, you'd understand. I can't remember how long it took, but I'd guess it was in the range of 3 years. Most of that time, nothing was happening.

One of the Thai articles discussing the construction project (Nongkai/Ringroad) also mentioned a few other projects:
The Sam Prao/Ring Road intersection project is due to be complete before the end of August 2059.
Next year (2060) a median along the Udon/Nongbualamphu Hwy will be constructed beginning from Bahn Bak Dong for 10 km to reduce accidents (I think Bahn Bak Dong is about k.11/12), price 10 million Baht.
Widen the SamPrao Rd to 4 lanes for an additional km. 17 million Baht.
And.....widen the Ban Pheua road in the area of the curve at Bahn Dong Moo to 4 lanes to reduce accidents, 19.5 million Baht.
Progress.

Looking at the projected images it really looks great but three years? 555 TIT maybe six years maybe closer.

Work on this seemed to have started some months ago - filling in some ditches and laying some pipes instead. But only where the road could be widened without demolishing anything - and no road surface actually laid yet, work stopped about 2 months ago. Nothing seems to have been done to actually clear buildings, widen bridges or improve intersections .....Widen the SamPrao Rd to 4 lanes for an additional km. 17 million Baht.

Come on Rick they will do it when traffic flows are highest causing the most disruption, I have one or two Thai friends along that road and they have no idea but are dreading the workmen's attitude to the traffic and the way they will do it.

Yes I agree and understand Parrot about the Thainess in a project, hence my remark if it has gone out for an accredited and noteworthy true ISO company both local and International.parrot wrote:Barney wrote:Any idea if it went out for tender to reputable companies either in Thailand or international?

Large gov't tenders for major regional infrastructure projects over a certain amount should go through a process of tendering and not go to the job for the boys brigade. I am not saying this is not happening, but, :-"
Also not saying it should go to an international company either, but I have in the last 12 months observed while driving to work some large road/bridge/overpass projects in china be completed amazingly fast. Some would dwarf this intersection work.
Just saying.

"Boys Brigade" ?? You could have seen them in action Wednesday afternoon at the Sam Praow intersection of the ring road. 2 "technicians" on their hands and knees with a steel HAND trowel/float (about 7-8 inches long) each finishing (smoothing out) the concrete road work on the new right/center lane on the ring road. Talk about a laugh. Tal about backward technology. More like 40 years behind the rest of the world. I suppose the contractor pocketed the extra cash it would have cost to lay a proper concrete road surface with a REAL piece of machinery.

?ISO company?......those companies build things lIke new Tescos and condos. They wear hard hats and safety gear when they work. I didn't see any of that when the Big C bridge was being built........who knows. Maybe times have changed.

I'm wondering how you would have finished the concrete surface Mike? You can get power screeds, they only screed the concrete, all over the world you have to bend your back and use a trowel to get the finished sealed surface.fdimike wrote: by fdimike » July 29, 2016, 8:55 am

Yes your showing a helicopter and power screed, helicopters don't do edges and screeds do just that screed the surface flat, as stated you must pick up a trowel every time!noosard wrote: by noosard » July 29, 2016, 9:51 am
