Maybe your best bet would be to buy some drywall like what is used in the ceiling now and cut out a round piece to fit inside the whole. You can use adhesive caulk or water based construction adhesive to secure it in place. Use drywall paste to fill the joint and paint it the same color as the ceiling now. Once the adhesive is set and the paint is dry then cut a new correct size hole for your downlight. This method would not require any power tools as you can easily cut the drywall with a knife or hacksaw blade held in a plastic handle which is available at any home center.
I hope this helps.
fdimike your correct, but was trying to avoid the work,(11 lights to sort ,)so i think it's time to bite the bullet and go and buy some lights that fit ,the holes that the builder come electricians cut are all shapes looks like they used a butchers knife on it , ( no disrespect to butchers) it's the same old story to get a job done well , you've got to do it yourself ,trying to avoid going up on the roof ,i employed some guys to go up and cement/seal inbetween the joining roofs ,paid them well for it , AND YES i ended up completing it myself ,it leaked like a sieve
