Much Che Manta Boutique Hotel

Post by lee » July 10, 2009, 2:38 pm

A new 73 room Boutique Hotel is currently under construction in central Udon Thani. The owners (Tang Ngee Soon Superstore) tell me they hope to open by December 2009.

The hotel will be called 'Much Che Manta Boutique Hotel' and is located near Tungsi Muang. You can read the full report in our next Udon Magazine guide which will be uploaded shortly and distributed around Udon on 20th July. I will also update it's progress on this thread as and when I receive more information.

The owner showed me around last week so I took a couple of snaps, it should look really nice when finished. One thing I noticed was it has a very large parking area which will be very useful in this busy area.

Well if it takes service as seriously as the supermarket does then it will soon become the ONLY place to stay in Udon - depending on the price I guess. The "Boutique" tag would normally put me off in BKK as it implies a bit of a premium price, but they seem to have their fingers on the pulse as regards as to value for money.
Should be an interesting development....

Don't know if anyone remembers but it used to be the Chaiporn hotel. Stayed there in late 90's. Wasn't much then but at 300bt a night it was good enough for me and great location for this part of town. Glad to see the old girl got a makeover, wish the owners well.

Same location as the Chaiporn Hotel? Yep, was built back in the 60s. Room for 60 baht or $3 a night back then, no air cond but ceiling fan. Agree that the location is a good one but if Ngee Soong owners are involved then they already know that and should do well.

Used to be a popular restaurant a few doors away, Three Sisters. Good food comparable to Mayah's on a smaller scale. Heard that the sisters all married GIs and moved to the states but don't know how true.

It's in a good location.
Especially as there are lots of events taking place in Tungsi Muang all year round.
Boutique normally means it's funished in a Neo-Contemporay style.
A welcome addition to that part of the town.

Nothing like your Blackpool guest house, with swirly patterned carpets, avacado toilet suites, an old Bush colour TV from the 1980's in the corner, and a rancid smell in the room.

That is good then Prenders - still a "gap in the market" in Udon for some enterprising soul (although I am not sure that Blackpool guest house & soul can actually be used in the same sentence.

I thought it was from the Vietnam war era, used to be paintings or pictures of fighter planes in the lobby. Also, the roof top looked as if used to be a roof top bar, probably was back in the day.

The restaurant you're thinking of was The Mandarin, good chow and some real cuties serving it (and not just the food :D )...of course this was before I got married :-$

Seem to remember hearing that a Thai hotel may have some tax break if it is a boutique hotel instead of a standard hotel. I don't know the difference between the two.

Hi Guys, Did this hotel open?

Looking to make my first trip inside Thailand (apart from BKK) next month and would like a quality hotel in the city centre.

Much Che Manta Boutique Hotel

Post by chrisoary » April 7, 2011, 7:38 pm

Just stayed here for 2 nights with the wife and baby, got to say it was spot on.
The staff were friendly and really helpfull, room was comfortable and clean and breakfast (thai) was good.
Originally only planned on staying one night as we were in town to renew the wifes passport, but we enjoyed our day/ night so much decided to stay on.
back in the village now after a short fix of civilisation!
