She is from way out in the sticks where i guess they have to eat anything that moves to get some protein.Desperately poor out there and the family lived in a hut the size of a garden shed in the UK.She even barbequed those giant geckos you get on the houses.

Raw chicken embryos! I've had ant eggs and I thought that was bad.

Never been able to face eating them myself, my wife always describes them as tasting like nuts :?

The ant eggs I can cope with, actually not an unpleasant taste, it is the 'flying things' that I cannot manage - all those legs:shock: ....two days later I am still picking them out of my teeth...just as well that I gather that dental costs are cheap... :D

Be glad you guys didn't find the Phillipines before Thailand. In the PI they are a delicasy (mispelled) called Baluts. They like them and think they are great. When a ship came into the docks that had a filipino crew they would bring these out to restock the ship. Never did we have a problem with the dockmasters eating on these ships. I did but made it known NO BALUTS

My god Sean, did you read all the detail that was with this...like...

Insects are the food of the future; they are a good source of nutrition, high in protien, low in fat and contain calcium and iron.

Many species of insects are lower in fat, higher in protein, and have a better feed to meat ratio than beef, lamb, pork, or chicken.

Insects are tasty. Really! Even if you are too squeamish to have them as a main dish, you can blend them up in a blender and add them to your favourite dish for a protien boost.

Still think I will give it a miss... :D

Well if you have ever eaten at the 20 baht fast food shops and stalls - probability is that you already have eaten them without knowing.!

About 2 weeks ago I was busy munching khow phat (from the fast food shop) whilst sat in front of my pc - not paying much attention, when I glanced at the spoonful of rice just an inch from entering my mouth - there amonst the rice was a very black - very cooked, cockroach. somehow I seemed to lose my apetite :(

While I read this on the web (and we all know how truthful & reliable that is)

The average human will eat 8 spiders while asleep in their lifetime

So I guess you are right... :D

Not too surprising Paul :-& I always remember my 1st early morning food experience with som tam at KF Lee's in Nong Khai, had my 1st fork full, then low and behold a small army of ants appeared underneath, I pointed it out to the cook and she said "good for you, make you stlong", ah well, guess how often i went back for 2nd's :?

I agree Sean :D I have always tried to make a point of not eating in any place where my food could eat my food quicker than I could... :yikes:

Sorry Dave, I guess that you don't want me to tell you about the site that actually said it was 4 a year then?? I always wondered how I could wake up heavier than when I went to sleep - well that is my excuse for the diet failing... :)

You would be surprised at the percent of non food items allowed in process food. That will be bugs, rats, etc.

Makes me want to go out a buy a can of spam. Yum Yum :P
