Amazing Thailand, but not surprising.
Pedestrians do not have any right of way in a cross walk here. I tell visitors the cross walk (zebra crossing) means to be extra careful trying to cross the road.

Ironic pedestrian death in crosswalk / zebra xing
There is a zebra crossing near my place, UdonPitt School and I nearly get rear ended sometimes, as I slow down and stop for the students who are crossing the road.

When I slow down to stop at zebra crossings in Thailand, I often turn on the emergency flashing lights to warn the car behind.

Ironic pedestrian death in crosswalk / zebra xing
On numerous occasions as I was approaching one of several school crossings on the divided highway coming into Udon Thani from Nong Han an individual passed by me as if I was standing still and they kept on speeding thru school crossing and the orange cones that were set up and nearly missing the school crossing guard as if they were not there. Be alert and be careful out there.
