On a recent trip to the US, I signed up for google voice. With that, I have a stateside phone number that I can use to receive One Time Passwords (OTP) from financial institutions when I want to log on to my accounts. OTPs allow an extra layer of security for one line access. I already use OTP for logging on to my Siam Commercial Account......but needed a stateside number to receive OTP from US-based institutions.
The service works as advertised. Best of all......it's free (as in google-free).

I would add it to the list of things to do for anyone planning on settling in Thailand.
