Oh dear. Two crushing defeats by the away sides - who already both held embarrassingly large leads from the first legs. It can't be often that the 2 games manage the same result home & away.
The end of the road for Arsene? or will being in the lead until having a man sent off save him??

Well I guess that was what Arsenal were trying to do the night before & failed. :D
With 2 minutes of normal time remaining Barcelona were still behind by 3 goals to 5. They do have Suárez , Messi & Neymar though!!

In contrast Dortmund pull off a fairly uneventful 4 nil victory at home.. :D This was a bit more of a 1 man show though, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scoring a classy hat trick..

A pretty good result for United on a pretty poor playing surface.
It does mean that Rostov have to come to Old Trafford & score, which should make for an entertaining second leg.
Of the others, Genk seem to have the edge over Gent & Lyon over Roma - but who knows after the Barcelona result?? :D
All the other games look like both sides will still fancy their chances..

Well from heroes to zeros & now a return to heroes!!
Remarkable display by Leicester to overcome a very good side in Sevilla.
They managed to bundle in a first half goal to put themselves into the driving seat but the the second half was a real action packed affair. Leicester score again & then have to save a penalty as the visitors have a man sent off & their manager sent to the stands!!

It was a less frantic affair in the other game as Juve eased themselves comfortably into the final 8. The game as sealed before half time when a hand ball saw Porto reduced to 10 men & the hosts a further goal ahead through the resulting penalty..

& Citi fail as well. Monaco go through on the away goals rule after they absolutely dominate most of the game. Sane gave Citi fans hope with 20 minutes left when he found the net but the hosts struck again 13 minutes before the end to seal it.
Atlético had done all the hard work away at Leverkusen. The visitors had a couple of chances that might have changed the outcome but it was a professional containment job for most of the match.
Pepe could do worse than watch a rerun of this game !! :D

When Leicester were beaten 2-0 by Swansea in February in the EPL,and looking to be in freefall into the Championship,I wonder what odds you would have got on them being the only English team left in the last 8 of the Champions League ?
statto would know the answer.....he's been very quiet recently.....surely this pleasant (although misguided on the footie) man isn't serving a ban ? :badteeth:

Hardly a feast of football at Old Trafford, but a good result. Rostov came to frustrate & did that for a long period, however they also needed to score or they were out. Eventually they attacked & United got a goal to seal it. The hosts were grateful to a couple of fine stops by Sergio Romero between the sticks though.

The draw takes place later today, but United will have to pick up the pace if they want to progress further!!

Champions League: Leicester face Atletico Madrid in quarter-final

Leicester City have been drawn against Spanish side Atletico Madrid in their maiden Champions League quarter-final.
The Premier League champions progressed to the last eight by beating Spanish title-chasers Sevilla 3-2 on aggregate.
Leicester will play the first leg against last year's beaten finalists away from home on 11 or 12 April, with the return leg on 18 or 19 April.
Holders Real Madrid face Bayern Munich, while Barcelona take on Juventus and Borussia Dortmund play Monaco.
Sportsday: Live reaction to the draw
Atletico are the only side left in the quarter-finals who the Foxes have previously played.
Diego Simeone's side were beaten by neighbours Real Madrid on penalties in last season's Champions League final.
The 2014 Spanish champions are fourth in La Liga this season, five points adrift of third-placed Sevilla.
Full draw:
Atletico Madrid (Spain) v Leicester City (Eng)
Borussia Dortmund (Germany) v Monaco (France)
Bayern Munich (Germany) v Real Madrid (Spain)
Juventus (Italy) v Barcelona (Spain)

No easy draws in the last 8 but Leicester will take heart from this one..... :-k

United should be satisfied with this draw.....

Europa League: Man Utd drawn against Anderlecht

Manchester United have been drawn against Belgian leaders Anderlecht in the Europa League quarter-finals.
United, considered the favourites by many bookmakers, are the only British club left in Europe's secondary club competition.
Jose Mourinho's side edged past Russian side FC Rostov with a 2-1 aggregate win in the last 16.
French side Lyon play Besiktas, Dutch giants Ajax meet German team Schalke, while Celta Vigo face Belgium's Genk.
The first legs are set to take place on Thursday, 13 April and the return games a week later.

Full draw:
Anderlecht (Bel) v Manchester United (Eng)
Celta Vigo (Spa) v Genk (Bel)
Ajax (Net) v Schalke (Ger)
Lyon (Fra) v Besiktas (Tur)

Once again in this competition Barca have given themselves a huge mountain to climb to get through to the next round. They managed it last time but I think Juve might be a bit smarter than PSG & maybe the referee might not be as accommodating. :D

Borussia Dortmund will now face Monaco tonight after a 'targeted attack' on the German team bus left it & defender Marc Bartra damaged. A letter has been found at the site of the attack but the German police have not, so far, released too many details...

Dortmund were 2 nil down by half time so did better in the second half of their rescheduled match.
Leicester restricted Atletico to just a dubious penalty,
A match that ebbed & flowed in Germany. Bayern missed a penalty which would have put them 2 up, Ronald scored 2 in the second half, Bayern have a man sent off & then Manuel Neuer in goal stopped Real putting the game out of sight.

A decent result for Leicester which means they still have a chance of progressing further.
Advantage Real in the battle of the two European giants......Bayern have to score at least 2 in the Bernabeu which is a bit of a daunting task.
Personally,I was surprised that the Dortmund-Monaco tie went ahead so soon after the bus attack.Not fair on the Germans who must still have been in a state of shock....just my opinion. =;

Very good result for Ajax against one of the more fancied sides left in the competition. While possession was pretty even the home side dominated all the attacking stats & were well worth the result.
Most of the excitement in the Vigo against Genk happened in the first half. The hosts looked in prime position going in at half time 3 to 1 up. Genk pulled another back after the break to make it very evenly posed going into the return leg.
It will be crowd trouble rather than football that will be the headline from the Lyon against Besiktas match. The start had to be delayed by 45 minutes as the crowd spilled onto the pitch before the start. In the game itself the hosts managed to claw themselves back into a good position by scoring 2 goals in the last 10 minutes. I am not sure that either players or fans will relish the return fixture though!!
United were undone by poor finishing in a game that they absolutely dominated. The hosts scored late on with their only shot on target in the entire game.
