What are your 5 favourite Thai dishes
I get asked regularly by Thais, " What are my favourite Thai dishes ? "
It took an hour to come down to approx 10 dishes and now I've sorted it to my top 5
I deliberately excluded the venue/s that way the focus / comments are on the meal itself.
Exclusions are Japanese Chinese and other Non Thai cusine.
These are not in any favourite order
1 - Khao Soi Gai - Chiang Mai curry chicken noodles
2 - Larp - Duck, Chicken, Beef, Fish ( no offal ) fresh and dry chillis, rice powder, fish sauce, purple onions and spicier the better. Could also add Nam Tok as its the same receipe.
3 - Gang Som Cha Om Goong - Spicy soup with egg ommlette and prawns )
4 - Poo Phat Pong Curry - Sweet curry sauce with crab / stir friend egg and vegetables
5 - Pad Krapow Gai - Chicken with chilli, spicy basil and fried egg on a bed of steamed rice.

Durian season now...So when my wife Nok make me Massaman Curry WITH DURIAN...man that's my favvo Thai/Issan dish.
Re: What are your 5 favourite Thai dishes
1. I'd agree with the Pad Krapow but I generally have it with pork, while more fatty it has more flavour.
2. I'm a man of simple taste and my local noodle shop is hard to beat for simplicity. The fact it's remained open for years and outlived other attempts in the village says a lot.
3. I like BBQ'd chicken with sticky rice as well, again we have our favourite vendor not far from the new Tesco.
4. I forget the name of the curried noodle dish but the eggs noodles served are hard and crispy with veg.
5. Larb dib I believe is the name of the raw beef larb. Larb tartare! A favourite of the family so I eat quite often again with sticky rice.

Re: What are your 5 favourite Thai dishes
In my early days visiting Thailand I once went on a mission to order krapow moo(pork) but by the time I reached the favourite little family restaurant moo had became maa. Needless to say I never got what I asked for and I never asked for it again once I returned with the krapow moo and the Mrs had explained what I'd actually asked for.
I wonder if I'd pronounced it as หมา or ม้า, being very new to the language I never knew there was a difference back then.
It's fair to say Thai food has much to choose from with very varied flavours. I don't think I've seen as much variety in any other national cuisine, certainly outside Asia anyway.

For me most non-soup noodle dishes as long as not to spicy and does not have sea food. Also mango with sticky rice, cashew chicken fried rice and Thai Style sweet and sour chicken
