A favourite song?
We’ve had a few contentious posts lately and in some cases things have got a bit testy, maybe a lighter thread might cheer things up a bit? Anyway, the other week I was dining with Milkman and his lovely wife and he asked each of us if we had a favourite song. The choice of favourites was really interesting as were the reasons behind why. My favourite song is In Dreams by Roy Orbison but the reasoning behind why is quite private to me. However, if you have a favourite song and want to share it that would be great. There’s no need to put why it’s your favourite but I’m sure Milkman would love to know, he’s very interested in what makes people tick and often fires random questions to find out, of course we might get a chuckle too. https://youtu.be/xplKpL59sPg

Ha ha! I was too, you’d still be hard pushed to find bands as good as Sweet, Slade, T Rex and so on, boy o boy, those flares and waistbands!

Public Image by Public Image Limited sums up the whole tawdry business behind “pop music’. What a tune, pop-pickers.vincemunday wrote: ↑October 7, 2017, 5:30 pmHa ha! One of the most iconic groups of the UK 70’s... Mud!
This video has it all, high waistbands, flares, brothel creepers, the unnecessarily feminine guitarist, yeah it has to all come back one day doesn’t it?

No doubt. Almost all of the Stones songs are excellent. I remember when Some Girls came out when I was a teenager living at the beach. It played non-stop all summer.

Re: A favourite song?
Well undoubtably the start of WW2 was the biggest event ever in my long life so naturally my choice is a couple of tunes from that period, played and sung by millions of Brits they helped to keep our hopes and moral high despite the nightly bombing raids, they are both sung by Vera Lynne, White Cliffs of Dover and Coming in on a wing and a prayer.Still bring a tingle down my spine when I hear them . As for you of the mods and rockers generation I would have thought Born Free by Matt Monro would have been appropiate, after all it could have been so different .
Ageing is a privilige denied to many .

I’m with you on the T Rex/Marc Bolan tracks, I first heard them when they were still Tyrannosaurus Rex, they shortened their name after, and they were brilliant even then.
To be honest, never really a country fan and that one’s close to my least favourite of my least favourites lol

Re: A favourite song?
True story. I was swimming over the Siam Grand and I bumped into an oldish Dane who was heavily into motorbikes, some of you probably know him, he’s there a lot. However, the conversation turned to music and to my surprise he actually said one his favourites was Dame Vera Lynn and that she was still really popular among old folk back in Denmark.
Yes it could have been so different and SOME of us are eternally grateful to those people who gave their lives so that we could listen to whatever we liked, believe what we liked and live how we liked, I feel those rights are now being eroded but that’s another thread

Yep it’s the Who for me too, but those Doc Martens Elton John is wearing are absolutely the greatest, that had to be one of the best free adverts of all time.
