Illegal Streaming conviction in U.K.

Post by vidmaster » November 10, 2017, 7:48 am

If you think streaming TV content illegally could save you money, think again. One British man has been ordered to pay £16,000 in legal costs for illegally streaming Sky Sports.

Mr Yusuf Mohammed of Bristol ran a "well-known piracy blog". He will also have to pay damages to Sky.

Is it the KODI box that was his downfall or not using a reliable VPN
Is this the thin end of a wedge and will it affect us in Udonthani?

He was doing it as a business - i.e. charging others to receive his 'stream' of Sky Sports.
Hence the charge & the fine.

The chances of any individual, anywhere, getting charged for personally downloading stuff to view for themselves is slim to none - especially if a VPN is being used...

Not so sure Bob, was it not about 4 years ago that the Thai Authorities made quite a big thing about how they were going to stamp out piracy/copying etc etc ........ so you had better be careful in say 16 or so years when they get round to it

:D
They did crack down on the 365Sport boys a few months ago - although that was at the request of the EPL & Sky I think.
But they were very much in the same situation as the man from Bristol vidmaster wrote about.

The sports authorities are working on the principle that if they get rid of the suppliers then the customers will go...
They are undoubtedly correct, but it does not mean that they will switch to the silly price Sky & the others charge. They pay a fortune for the rights but view contribution pays back little, it is adverts that provide the cash. Advertisers care little about who has paid to watch, only the size of the audience. If the official hosts of the sports are too successful then they might just find that their revenues will actually go down rather than up...

It was only recently that the Thais closed "EXPAT TV PREMIUM" and "EXPAT TV." The former were showing live PL games from Sky whilst the latter were showing all UK TV terrestial TV Channels.

There must be something to be gained from posting pirated stuff, as every week an hour or two after the games finish there are "highlights" available on youtube, and about another 2 or 3 hrs later they get taken off and replaced by a message that the Prem Lge have complained about copyright ...... doesn't seem to stop Youtube letting people put them there in the first place though, and they dont seem to take them down until they get a complaint :-k
