CHINESE RESTAURANT

Post by Mosquito » January 13, 2018, 9:21 pm

Any in Udon?

There's a wide definition of Chinese food/restaurant, talking about one with those 10-12 person rotating round tables w/ a smaller round shelf in the middle where you can get a 7-8 course meal from a menu close to what you'd find in Hong Kong (Kowloon) or Singapore.

Mae Yaah is one of them but they might only have one or two of those tables in one of the spare rooms. There's also a known one on a back street by Kasikorn Bank main branch, but it's down the side street. Their eyes might pop out of their heads when a gwai loh walks in though, they're pretty much off the beaten path.

Here's 4.

Seam Hai - A long time family favorite -

Luk Fatt - Also good.

Pu Kong Dimsum - near the airport - have never been there.

Something? 24 - another favorite - best in the early evening just after the warehouses close and before there's no tables left. Not inviting from the street, but good food.

How about fahlang style Chinese food? Seems the only time I can get it is when Andy at the Gallery cooks it for the Friday night buffet. Sweet/sour pork, chow mein (lo mein), etc.

Central Hotel also has a tradition Chinese Restaurant with all the bells and whistles. Dim Sum is nice.

Another is located in UD Town, looks fancy, but never been there for a meal. Located on the ground level near the grassy knoll.

The best for me in Issan is no doubt the Dim Sum buffet at Pulman Hotel,( Khon Kaen ) and has a full Chinese Ala Carte menu also

Pullman does - On Sunday for free, as part of the Buffet Price, small portions but can go and get as many as you like. Plus about 20 other Chinese dishes in the buffet , and the Dim Sums ! I think its 800++ for Sundays

Central does the true traditional Peking Crispy Duck, but its skin only with pancakes and accessories . My Chinese friends confirmed this is the correct serving for Chinese people.

Speaking of duck.....my two go-2 places for duck are MK and Nanyuan Noodle (located just up Phosri Rd from the Bangkok Bank....same side......park in Bangkok Bank lot).
It's not crispy, it's the best I can find in Udon. I've tried just about all of them.....most are too dry for me.

If you're not into the family dining part of MK, you can order the duck to go. It comes with sauce, ginger, and cukes.

U get as many Dim Sum and Lemon Chicken in the Daily Buffet in KK as you want, Sundays is Peking Duck day, with meat inside... ( Western Style ) they bring out approx 20 pancakes at a time, normally the Fast and Fittest get them first LOL
