Does anyone have experience of dental surgery in Udon? I don't mean root canal treatment or crowns etc. I think I need an old root cutting out.
My dentist in the UK told me years ago that he could not do it and I would need to go to hospital for it to be sorted. Almost forgot about it till last week when it flared up again. Antibiotics have brought down the swelling but obviously it is something that needs to be attended to ASAP.
Looking for hospital or surgeon recommendations etc please.

Never mind, if someone needs help, I will try to help.
I worked with Oral Surgeons (and all other Dental Professionals) for 20 years. You said " I think I need an old root cutting out. " What does this mean? Is it one bad root on a molar or bicuspid,or is it a left over root from a broken off tooth? Is it impacted, got swelling, infection? You cannot "cut" a root off a healty tooth without doing damage to the tooth. So I am going to "assume' and give you my recommendation. I had an impacted tooth "flare-up" about every 6 months for about 10 years until I had it taken out. Teeth are living parts of our body, they will flare up to let us know they need some assitance. Your Dr probably won't do it because thats not his speciality field. Now you can find a Dr here who will love your money and may hurt you and may cause a bigger infection. And you may encourage greater infection by smoking, bad oral hygine. Do you smoke? You will need to stop while you heal if you get the surgery, or you will get what is called "dry socket". So, my "reccommendation"....stop the anti-biotics, they are like taking chemo-therapy, they will kill the red and white blood cells and make you more suseptiple to anything that comes around, like a cold or flu. START doing rincings with warm water and salt. And get yourself a bottle of MYBACIN anti-septic. We get it at NeeSoon (sp?) bigger bottle and cheaper. When it "fares_up" knock it back down..you can do this forever.

I had some teeth removed around 15 years ago and as a result now wear a lower denture. My dentist at the time left part of a root that he couldn't remove and said I would need to go to hospital for it to be cut out. He had the bad manners to suffer a stroke a few weeks after my treatment and then I moved with my job and life went on.
Has never bothered me in the slightest till last week.

I have had excellent results from Dr Yads, an implant specialist, who also works with a surgeon, in Bangkok Hospital, Udon Thani. She will give you a plan, including costs. I have not found her overly expensive, but she does get very busy and appointments may take some time.

udonsmiles, Ok, seems to me the root was left in "sublinqually" below the tissue and not sticking above the tissue, and may be trying to extract itself. This usually happens by "ill-fitting"dentures that cause stress to the tissue. I made 1,000's of dentures and all were balanced and functional. meaning the teeth were set "over the ridge of the bone where the force goes, and not left or right of the crest of the bone". Anything set to the left or right of the bone's crest will result in "lifting and tipping", ill-fitting dentures". So, if I am correct in my dianosis, you either need to get a new (better) denture made, functional and balanced, or do the rinsings and take the denture out at times to give the ridge a break from the pressure applied to it. Did you know that extracting a molar from the maxillary (upper) can open up into the sinus area? This will result in an emergency "flap" surgery, or if the Dr, is ill trained, he will not notice, and you will end up in the hospital. If you have a molar extracted from the mandible (lower) you could have your jaw broken. This happens alot, but is never reported. If its a single root, a trained Dr. should be able to take it out and send you home in an hour or so. Hope that help. [email protected]

"Listen up" some of you "ill-fitting" denture wearers that think you need a surgeon, but don't have the
money. Felixcat is going to tell you how you can "DIY", Do it yourself, and make your own "soft liner" on your lower denture. The lowers are always the worst for comfort...right? Yep. So let me walk you through something....
To protect myself, I am going to tell you a "dream" I had.........
In my dream, one day i went into my office and got an unusual request for 6 soft-liners, from 6 different Dr's. This had never happened before, and I didn't have enough "soft-liner" material, that i usually bought from Germany. Because the Dr's already had the Paiients in , taken an impression inside their denture and had it ready to send to me, I noticed I did not have enough "soft-liner" material in my Office. Out of panick, I grabbed a tube of silicone window sealer that had "petrolium' products in it, then looked at the ingredients of the German made silicon...same stuff. I also realized that most of our cheese products had petrolium products in them also. Long story short, all were happy, and its probably 25 years later, from my dream. Sooooo, if i was to make my own soft liner, I would 1st scrub with bleach or alcohal, then let it stand to dry. To get an even better job done, I would take fine sand paper, lightly sand the in-side of the denture. Have your silicone ready,,,and do not do this if you have "dry mouth!!". If your mouth is lubricated "naturally" then apply the silicone inside the denture. "not too much", place it in your mouth, gently apply pressure from your top mouth, hold it in place for a few minutes. take it out, rinse, let it set to complete its "curing", then take a new razor blade and cut the excess on the boarders. Enjoy. Avoid smoking and large amounts of alcohal, that will deteriate the soft-liner.
