Why would anyone allow 3 12 year old kids to ride a motorbike on the main roads? A senseless loss of young life!

I can think of various reasons but no one would care

Times like this when I wish I had Bill Gates's money and could afford to take the Thai Police chiefs to court for "dereliction of duty" and not stop until they were made to do their job regardless of how many judges they managed to buy

Its not just Police but PARENTS who are derelict in their responsiblities

Half the time the parents are "working" at the other end of the country, with loads not even in the country.
If Plod did his job and took the vehicles away from them, they wouldnt be able to ride the damn death traps
Re: What is wrong with this picture
Now we are making excuses
The Police are not responsible to begin with It starts at home regardless if a Parent is there or not
Its easy to take the keys by an adult

Perhaps the young ladies thought they were princesses and the backwater laws of the third-world didn't apply to them.

There are lots of things the Windsor clan just don’t do. They don’t vote, voice political opinions or ever skip the chance to put money on a horse. (Okay, that last one is just a studied guess.)
There is something else we can add to that list too: wearing seat belts.
In the wake of Prince Philip’s car crash, where the Duke of Edinburgh’s Range Rover collided with a Kia carrying two women and a nine-month-old baby, the 97-year-old royal’s refusal to belt up made international headlines.

Guilty as charged of trying to judge Thai parenting standards by what what you are used to
In the end of the day if an offense has been committed it is the responsibility of the police to deal with it, not take B200 and let them ride off to their death, or just completely ignore them

In the end of ever infraction it is the Police BUT to begin with it starts at Home with the Family
Remember the days when you broke the rules? It was your Family that said what the Hel are you doing There certainly wasn't an Officer standing in my room

At the end of the day the police didn't buy the kids the bike!! yes road safety is very poor here and always will be till attitudes change. I also understand without the bike kids sometimes can't get to school as parents away working and grandparents to old. RIP kids
Re: What is wrong with this picture
It shouldn't get to a level where it is a police matter. As Doodoo said, it begins at home. Bring the moto-cy to the temple, get it blessed and give the monk 300B and a bottle of Miranda and the child and bike are bullet-proof.stattointhailand wrote: ↑January 28, 2019, 7:22 pmGuilty as charged of trying to judge Thai parenting standards by what what you are used to

"Buddha take care,.. baw-bpen-yang." It'll never stop until parents take over responsibility from Buddha.
Re: What is wrong with this picture
You cannot change the attitude of a Thai riding a bike 3-4 on a bike with the kids standing in the front holding on the bars no helmets of course. Thai traffic police ive seen them riding with there chin straps not fastened. Three simple answers to halt the carnage 1 age limit to riding 16, 2 make them do a basic road safety awareness and 3 anyone committing a serious offence take there bike to a compound until they learn there lesson anyone riding another bike take that too.

Limit the carnage?
Confiscate the bike and sell it.
Arrest the responsible adult(s) who let the children ride, fine them a large amount of money proportional to their nett worth and give them 40 hours of community service (litter picking, klong cleaning, road sweeping etc.) in the area where they live to be performed in a high viz jacket with "Irresponsible parent" emblazoned on it.
Can't get to school? Thai kid's still have legs don't they?

I consider that it is a miracle that more of them are not killed. How many time have you had some kid turn in front of you without looking first.
