I don't know exactly how the system works....but places like Ngeesoon and Makro offer promotional items after you've checked out. The stores will post signs on the shelf advising that you must buy a certain amount (Baht) or certain quantity to qualify.....and after paying, you go to another counter and pick up your item.
Ngeesoon will often tape free items to its products....for example, you buy a bag of 3-1 (27 count) and there are two bottles of drinking water or a can or two of Nescafe coffee beverage taped to the bag.
We often times give away some of the free items.....drinking water to our gardener, a nice Alpo pillow to a handicapped kid up the way.....but today's Nescafe coffee mug....that's going into the cabinet, and the Keep Cool bag will go into the truck for market runs.

Big C often give away coke or toilet rolls if you spend a certain amount, atm they're doing spend so much and get a bottle of water for 1 baht.
