Premier League 2017-18
Re: Premier League 2017-18
Arsenal will go away from the game much happier than Chelsea will be. A disappointing game for the home side, first 20 minutes excepted, Arsene back in favour with his fans....for now!
Everton came to defend & that plan fell apart after only 4 minutes when Valencia scored his goal for the season. The visitors had some chances (via Rooney) to get one back but, realistically, this was all one way traffic. In a late blitz United scored 3 more to make it a bit of a rout.
On this showing it is obvious to see why the Toffees have failed to score. They are desperate for an out & out striker & Rooney is someone who manages on the opportunities that presents, rather than being one himself these days..

Hang on a minute. Admitting I have minimal interest in any other team than my own (get your tissues out in sympathy ) but didn't Everton spend millions and millions?
Re: Premier League 2017-18
But, sadly for them, they spent zip on a striker.
They sold the only striker they had (for £75M) & only replaced him with a freebie.

Chelsea 0 Arsenal 0
Quite an entertaining game and a fair result.Chelsea did start the better but Arsenal improved as the half wore on and should have led at half time through Ramseys effort that hit the post......Courtois was the busier of the two keepers in the first half.
In the second half Chelsea forced the Gunners on the back foot through sheer determination but I can only remember a stinging shot from Hazard that forced Cech into a good save.No doubt it will be pointed out to me that I missed most of the action in the second half when I went to get a beer out of the fridge !
Luiz was a tad unlucky to be booked for dangerous play when his overhead kick caught Koscielny but then was rightly red carded for a stupid foul on Kolasinac that gave the ref no option but to send him off.
Manchester United 4 Everton 0
Great start for United with a fantastic goal from Valencia after 4 minutes and United looked really good for the first 25-30 minutes. But thereafter they allowed Everton too much possession and de Gea had to make a couple of smart saves.
Three goals in the last 10 minutes was a bit harsh on Everton but it could have been worse if Lukaku would have scored from a chance that 80 year old Sir Bobby Charlton would have put away in the first half and Mata not hit the post with his free kick.
I thought Rooney was Evertons best player, not that that is saying much and I thought Lukaku was, overall, quite poor for United.
Everton are toothless in attack and teams don't mind giving them possession as they don't offer much danger. How much have they spent on players in the close season ? Over 150 million ? But they have failed to replace their only quality striker and are now paying the price.
Their last 4 results tell their own story.....0-2,0-3,0-3 and now 0-4.......3rd from bottom of the Premier League.
747man has been very quiet on the footie forum the last few weeks......is he still "under moderation" or should that now read "under sedation" ??

Re: Premier League 2017-18
Only saw the first half of the Man U game, and must say I was SHOCKED to see that Lukaku got 3 Bonus points on FF. When I turned off the only way I could see him getting even ONE Bonus point was to score a hatrick (at least) , as his first half showing was somewhere between woeful and pitiful Having seen the "highlights" which showed his goal & assist I am now completely convinced that the guy who works out the BP system MUST have a well known Bank a/c number ............. the only other possible answer is that it is done by computer programme which would only crunch a batch of useless numbers rather than giving an actual assessment of the players performance.
Rumour going round ...... not sure how true, but Wemberlee staff are going to give free tickets to Tennis fans
Tickets in question are for seats behind the goals, and reason being that Tennis fans already suffer neck ache from watching their sport, and are less likely to sue after watching Tottenham play. With arguably the best strike force in the country (Kane Ali Eriksen & Son) one wonders why then, that Dire (not a miss spelling), Vertongen, Sissoko, Sanchez. Trippier and Alderweireld spent so much of the match passing the ball sideways/backwards and occasionally forward among themselves first right to left, then left to right, then right to left, then left to right.
The introduction of a bit of quality late on (Aurier) managed to prove that he cant dive with even a little credibility and that he does not possess the ability to cross a ball (I counted 8 attempted crosses with 3 hitting the guy directly in front of him and the other five failing to get beyond the first defender at the near post Perhaps they play the game differently where he comes from

Re: Premier League 2017-18
Former England captain Wayne Rooney has appeared in court and admitted drink-driving.
He was arrested when police stopped a car in Wilmslow, Cheshire, in the early hours on 1 September.
The 31-year-old was banned from driving for two years and ordered to perform 100 hours of unpaid work as part of a 12-month community order.
Shame ..... now his bits a totty will have to drive their own little 53 Herpies (oops spellin' mistoke)
When he has performed his 100 hours of "unpaid work" he will only have about 2000 hours left where he has been paid but hasn't worked to make up

Well I use to think Kick it out was a good idea ......... however
Now, all I see is a bunch of morons with their heads so firmly stuffed up each others ar*es that they have lost track of the REAL WORLD. The thing that amazes me is that the "powers that be" FA/Prem/Police actually listen to these w*nkers.
Good job their comments dont get listened to by the Thai authorities.... three quarters of the population would be arrested for being racist/sexist/bigist/smallist/farangist etc etc

Oooooooppppssss !!! : Leicester City grabbed second-half goals through Shinji Okazaki and record signing Islam Slimani to earn a 2-0 victory over Liverpool in the League Cup third round on Tuesday.
Re: Premier League 2017-18
It was pretty close & still nil, nil in the first half when the Hammers brought on Andy Carroll. Unfortunately he then proceeded to give the ball away twice to produce 2 Spurs goals before half time. Spurs then went 3 up before Hernández scored his first for West Ham. Spurs then had Aurier sent off, the Hammers got a second to make it a thrilling end..FULL-TIME
West Ham 2-3 Tottenham

Re: Premier League 2017-18
Just an observation here and wondering if others have a view. I used to try and referee at junior level and perhaps have more of an interest in the laws of the game and how referees interpret them. And so to the offside law and players deemed ‘not to be interfering’. I caught Kane’s first goal, I think, for Spurs at West Ham yesterday. Kane is central, clearly the wrong side of defenders by a couple of yards? (without looking at the video again) as the ball is pushed out to another Spurs player on the wing. Kane is not injured, not standing still. Indeed, he sees an opportunity developing and makes for goal, the West Ham defenders now in pursuit. The ‘winger’ runs on and sends over a cross which Kane buries from behind the ball. No problem with that element of the play.
For me, I can’t really grasp how he can be deemed ‘not interfering’ as the ball is played out to the wing and Kane is making ground. Albeit, the referee or assistant may take a few moments to weigh up the situation, but I sense there’d be a reluctance to stop play and award a free kick for offside. Kane is gaining an advantage by having a head start on the defenders. The general principle of the offside rule is surely that players cannot profit from being the wrong side (Unless the presence of two defenders, one of whom is usually the ‘keeper). I don’t know the history, but perhaps we had strikers leaning against the opposition’s posts awaiting the ball’s arrival and players just hoofing it as far forward as they could!
I also think there’s a tendency for forwards to remain the ‘wrong side’ in the hope they’re far enough away from the ball when their team attacks and a referee/assistant deems they were ‘inactive’. I’ve yet to see a supposedly, ‘wrong side’ injured player well away from play make a miraculous recovery as his team suddenly attacks. Would a brave referee award offside or a free kick for unsporting behaviour?
The present interpretation is not perfect, in my view.

Re: Premier League 2017-18
There certainly needs to be a change. Any player in an offside position IS interfering with play ........ the minute the ball is kicked from the kick off they HAVE to be interfering as they are on the pitch.
If I had the chance I would re write the rule .....
ANY player in an offside position when the ball moves forward shall be deemed OFFSIDE and play stopped.
Later in the same game Alii went down in the area, no foul given, so he slowly picks himself up and walks back, meantime the ball has been back to the Spurs pen area and four passes later it, and all the players, pass Alli (about 10 yds outside West Ham Box). Alii then turns and gets involved in play. Unless he was completely invisible (which I believe is unsportsmanlike conduct and therefore illegal) he was in the view of Joe Hart for the whole passage of play so CLEARLY INTERFERRING WITH PLAY and therefore should have been given OFFSIDE as soon as he turned and got involved.
If he wants to get involved again after being too lazy to run back to an onside position then he should be required to put a foot back into his own half of the field before moving forward again (one of the linos will be standing there to check, depending on the play at the time)

Sorry goodison, but it's what we do ........ help the little teams.
We managed to keep Blunderland in the league for about 4 or 5 yrs by giving them 4 or 6 pts a season
We will probably lose next weekend as well ....... helping another of the LITTLE teams (Southampton reserves) :-"
